Genesis 3:1-24
The Fall of Man
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
16 To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us,knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Ezekiel 28:1-26
A Prophecy Against the King of Tyre
1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘In the pride of your heart
you say, “I am a god;
I sit on the throne of a god
in the heart of the seas.”
But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
though you think you are as wise as a god.
3 Are you wiser than Daniel?
Is no secret hidden from you?
4 By your wisdom and understanding
you have gained wealth for yourself
and amassed gold and silver
in your treasuries.
5 By your great skill in trading
you have increased your wealth,
and because of your wealth
your heart has grown proud.
6 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘Because you think you are wise,
as wise as a god,
7 I am going to bring foreigners against you,
the most ruthless of nations;
they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom
and pierce your shining splendor.
8 They will bring you down to the pit,
and you will die a violent death
in the heart of the seas.
9 Will you then say, “I am a god,”
in the presence of those who kill you?
You will be but a mortal, not a god,
in the hands of those who slay you.
10 You will die the death of the uncircumcised
at the hands of foreigners.
I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
11 The word of the Lord came to me: 12 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘You were the seal of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,
topaz, onyx and jasper,
lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.
Your settings and mountings were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.
16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
17 Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.
18 By your many sins and dishonest trade
you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,
and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
in the sight of all who were watching.
19 All the nations who knew you
are appalled at you;
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.’”
20 The word of the Lord came to me: 21 “Son of man, set your face against Sidon; prophesy against her 22 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘I am against you, Sidon,
and among you I will display my glory.
You will know that I am the Lord,
when I inflict punishment on you
and within you am proved to be holy.
23 I will send a plague upon you
and make blood flow in your streets.
The slain will fall within you,
with the sword against you on every side.
Then you will know that I am the Lord.
24 “‘No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.
25 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they have been scattered, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. 26 They will live there in safety and will build houses and plant vineyards; they will live in safety when I inflict punishment on all their neighbors who maligned them. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.’”
Luke 10:18-20
Jesus Saw Satan Fall from Heaven
18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
There is Good and there is evil in this world...
Our LORD and our God created everything and everything at one time in Eden was good...But things changed after the fall of man...And as we read about the beginning of creation, I have wondered why God would have allowed the evil one in the Garden and in our Paradise...It seemed like the we are given clues and information about the fall of an angel by the Prophet Ezekiel...The description takes us beyond a man and a king and talks about one who was once in Eden and in the Garden with God...We do know that God could have banished the evil one from the garden, but He allowed the evil one to stay and to tempt Eve and Adam...One cannot say why God would allow such an evil force in Paradise...And we might even say God created the evil one, because He could have destroyed him immediately after he turned wicked and evil...We know the evil one did not create himself...God is our Creator...But God allows some things to happen, and He allowed the evil one to stay in Eden and to be around Adam and Eve...
The Prophet Ezekiel writes about a King from Tyre and how he a human had called himself a god...He did sit on a man made throne and he thought himself as a wise man, a wealthy man, and because of his wealth his heart had grown proud...Let us beware of Spiritual pride, and thinking we are God...So the LORD says He would bring foreigners against the king to pierce his splendor...This king is evil...
Does this evil king of Tyre compare to the evil one...Is the Prophet Ezekiel explaining the king in a just a way, to get the attention of the reader, or are there more in these verses than the king?...Are these verse about the king of Tyre or the evil one?...
The evil one seems to be lurking in the verses of the Prophet Ezekiel...And as Ezekiel writes further, we see a picture of the evil one and information about the evil one...Someone wicked in Eden, guarding the cherub of long ago, who was once blameless...The description goes far beyond that of a evil and wealthy king...The Prophet writes that the Word of the LORD came to him: “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty...You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl...Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared...You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you...You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones...You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you...Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned...So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones...Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor...So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings...By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries...So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching...All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.’”...
Jesus said He had seen satan fall from heaven like lightning...The evil one fell from heaven and was thrown to earth...So the evil one in this sense was and is defeated, when Jesus is around...Jesus uses the words snakes and scorpions in Luke's gospel, right after speaking about satan's fall from heaven...And we know that the serpent, the snake, was the evil and crafty one...So we know that the evil one was once in heaven, and had been cast down or thrown down to earth...Jesus gave His Disciples and followers the ability to trample over evil and run evil out when we follow Him and call out His Name...Jesus is promising us protection from the evil one...Where ever Jesus is and His teachings are -we are safe in His Name from evil...
