Luke 12:22-34
Do Not Worry
22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Man is what he thinks and is focused on (in his thoughts)...His life is determined by what he thinks, and thinks about...Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our lives, and our character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship, for what we are worshipping we are becoming.”
Our treasures, in this life, can be good treasures or bad treasures...We must realize that our constant thoughts share our lives...If our complete focus on life is accumulating material things, then this is what we treasure...But at the same time, if our lives are focused on some negativity, or some constant worry, we will be surrounded by that negativity, and that worry...The negativity and the worry becomes a part of our lives...It does in fact behoove us to be careful to what we work day in and day out for, and think about day in and day out for, because -it will determine our imagination, our thoughts, our character, and our lives...Jesus knew this...There is more to life than accumulating wealth...A lot of negative thinking can bring on worry...Jesus, also, tells us not to worry...Jesus teaches us to focus on the eternities, starting with His Father...No one focused on or had God more centrally in their life than Jesus...
Jesus' advice is to first seek His Father's kingdom...This is the real treasure of life...God's plan will play out in your life, if you stay focused on God, the Father...If our heart is focused on material things, our life will be of the temporary...If we keep our heart focused on the LORD, then our treasures will be on the eternities and heaven...Treasures in heaven never get exhausted or fail...The True Treasures are God and His Son...
