Luke 11:29-32
The Sign of Jonah
29 As the crowds increased, Jesus said, "This is a wicked generation. It asks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.
Should the one with mustard seed faith also want this?...Wouldn't it be great to see God and have this additional evidence?...Or should we be thankful to Him that He does not give us this additional evidence?...Should we demand more evidence from God?...And how can we demand more evidence from God, in the sense of why do we need more evidence?...
The non-believer wants this additional evidence to prove to himself that God is God...But God is God no matter how much more evidence that He gives us...God is different from man, and His thinking is far beyond man's...Let us believe that God is much different than man...
We can question God and still have faith...That was one of the great lessons of the Book of Job...Faith and our own faith might be viewed differently than constantly wanting a sign, a miracle, or more evidence...Jesus gave us the sign of Jonah as the Greatest Evidence...He was raised on the third day after His death, and still lives...Can we really have faith, if God is regularly giving us more evidence day after day?...If God is always giving us more evidence, then what is our faith?...What becomes of our hopes, if we are continually given more and more evidence?...
