Luke 12:49-53
Jesus Brings Not Peace but Division
49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Jesus was controversial in His time, and still controversial today...Jesus is different...People did not recognize Him when He was on earth, and many still do not recognize Him today, in one way or another, or by not believing in Him, or for some other reason...He has always been Kind and Caring to others...And although a Controversial Figure, He is still a mix of Truth, Justice, Kindness, Mercy, and will always be Full of Grace and Truth...Yet, One who brought fire to our earth...He is the One and Only One when we follow His Teachings we are following the Truth, and His Truth will set us free...
Jesus is Alive, Real, Still Relevant today, and always with us through the Holy Spirit...When He spoke on earth and when we listen to His prayers, and read about Him we see that He is full of Grace and Truth...He teaches us that He is the Truth, the Way, and the Life...And then He added that He is the Only Way to God...By saying this the One who always included and includes everyone to follow Him, has the hint, and even more of One of exclusion, when you realize that He is the Absolute Truth, and Only He can get us to God and Heaven...This comment is one of many that adds to His controversy, especially among other religions and dogmas...
Jesus is the One who said a peace I leave with you...My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you...Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid...And then He tells us that He did not come to bring peace on earth...Not peace, but division...Since He came to earth there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three...They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law...A Divine and controversial type teaching...
Whoever acknowledges Jesus before others, He will also acknowledge them before His Father in heaven...But whoever disowns Him before others, He will disown before His Father in heaven...Do not suppose that He has come to bring peace to the earth...He did not come to bring peace to earth, but a sword...For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household...Anyone who loves their father or mother more than they love Him is not worthy of Him; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than Jesus is not worthy of Him...Whoever does not take up their cross and follow Him is not worthy of Him...Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for His sake will find it...Anyone who welcomes believers of His welcomes Him, and anyone who welcomes Him welcomes the One who sent Him to earth...Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward...And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is His disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward...
This is why Jesus question of Who do you think He is, is so important...Is He just a Prophet or Wise Man or the Messiah, and the One with Eternal Life as St. Peter recognized?...
