Garry Guan, a native of the colonial city of Harbin, China, immigrated to the United States in 1987 and became a U.S. citizen in 1999. He is a professional interpreter and translator; a certified mediator for the State of Georgia; a professional anthropologist and senior archaeology consultant; a certified underwater archaeologist; a certified scuba diver; a self-taught auto mechanic; a three-time winner of the Chinese Chess Championship; a gold medalist in the long jump, triple jump and pole vault at the Georgia State Games; a stand-up comic; a painter and computer graphic artist; an accomplished cook; an active Rotarian; and most important of all, a dedicated father and husband. Garry holds a bachelor's degree in history and archaeology from Peking University, one of China?s most prestigious institutions, a master's degree in anthropology from Beijing's Central University of Nationalities, and a masters degree in general linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh.
