  • Healthcare policies: Believes the affordable Care Act is working and will fight to protect and implement it.

  • Economy and Workers Rights: Focused on making cuts to ineffective programs. Believes the path to fiscal responsibility starts with ending these wars.

  • Environmental & Climate Crisis: Believes humanity is under threat from climate change and believes our country needs better environmental protections.

  • Criminal Justice Reform: Wants to provide law enforcement with tools to protect the communities, increase rehabilitation services, focus on crime prevention.

  • Foreign Affairs: opposes the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

  • Education: Wants to fix No Child Left Behind to be more accountable and flexible. Believes it focuses on too much on standardized testing. Wants to increase funding for the Pell Grant program.

  • Equality & Justice: Believes there must be adequate funding for domestic and global programs. Believes LGBTQ+ community deserves equal rights.


He has represented Georgia's 5th Congressional District since 1987. Played a role in the U.S civil rights movement and was an organizer of the March on Washington.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Political Science.
