HW30

When I was young, I coveted this Heathkit rig. It was a valved 2m 5W AM transceiver with a super-regen receiver. At the time 2m was fairly quiet and a super-regen receiver was fine. Super-regens are sensitive, but the selectivity is poor. These days, these receivers would struggle. Most local activity is now on FM and DX mostly FT8 and SSB.

I never owned one of these rigs. I just owned the manual!

Versions were made for 11m CB, 10m and 6m. They were collectively known as Benton Harbour Lunchboxes.

These days there is far, far more functionality in a tiny dual band FM VHF handheld.
