This city is located about 15km north of Cambridge. It is famous for its cathedral that has stood on this site for a very long time. The cathedral has a famous wooden octagon that replaced the original structure that collapsed in the 1400s.

At one time it was an island surrounded by marsh and swamps.

Many now commute into Cambridge for work.

The university boat race between Oxford and Cambridge was held here in 2021 partly because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

There is a webcam watching the peregrine falcons at Ely cathedral.
