FT-710

This is Yaesu's latest HF transceiver. It covers 160m-4m (in the European version).  It can be adjusted from 5W to 100W output. On the Sherwood ratings it is 4th, which is very good.

Ergonomically it is very easy to use. With the auto-ATU, non resonant antennas may be tuned as long as the VSWR is less than 3:1. It is SDR based  on receive, with a 3D waterfall display.

As a QRPer,  I had hoped they bring out an SDR based  successor to the FT817/818 which are  no longer made due to component shortages.  Sadly, this looks unlikely now.

At one time Yaesu were market leaders. Now, at best, they are market followers, perhaps on a good day. You get the impression of a company in crisis that is floundering.

I like Yaesu products, but they need to do much better or they will lose market share and be forced to leave the Amateur Radio market.  In my view, this is a very critical time for them. My guess is they will leave the amateur radio market within 36 months.

This is a great radio, although personally I prefer the ICOM IC-705.
