Dow Wasiksiri

สำหรับภาพชุดที่ 2 จะเห็นการเปลี่ยนแปลง ของพื้นที่อันเกิดจาก บ้านที่สร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ พื้นที่ ที่เคยเป็นธรรมชาติก็หายไปหมดแล้วสิ่งที่เราเห็นก็คือบ้าน ที่เจ้าของตั้งใจทำให้ดูเหมือนมีสนิมขึ้นบนตัวบ้าน ทำให้มีความแปลกใหม่ แต่ท่านผู้ชมจะมองว่าเป็นงานศิลปะอีกแขนงหนึ่งก็ได้... ผลงานทั้งสองชุดนี้ สะท้อนถึงการหายไปของเสน่ห์บางอย่างแบบดั้งเดิมในภูมิทัศน์ที่ถูกสรรค์สร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ ที่เรียกว่า “The New Topographic” และทำให้บ้านเมืองมีการเปลี่ยนโฉมหน้าไปอย่างรวดเร็ว ... แต่ทั้งหมดทั้งปวงนี้ ตั้งใจที่จะให้ผู้ชมได้อ่านเรื่องราวและเนื้อหาของภาพโดยตีความกันเอาเอง สุดแท้แต่ที่จินตนาการของแต่ละคนจะพาไป อย่างที่ Lewis Baltz ได้กล่าวไว้ว่า “งานศิลปะควรเป็นสิ่งที่ชวนให้คิด มากกว่าชวนให้เพียงแค่มองเท่านั้น” จึงไม่ใช่แค่เรื่องของความสวยงาม แต่เป็นเรื่องของเนื้อหาในสิ่งที่เรามักจะมองข้าม และจินตนาการที่ทำให้ผู้ชมได้มีส่วนร่วมในการตีความอีกด้วย

In the second set of photographs, we are witnessing a transformation of a new house, modern and yet intentionally made to appear like a rusty house, built on what was perhaps in the past a pleasant landscape, this reflects the disappearing appeal of the former context in the man-altered landscape or “The New Topographic” which is changing the face of towns and cities at a rapid pace. Nevertheless, it is intended for the viewers to read and interpret the content and message according to wherever their imagination takes them. As Lewis Baltz once said, “Works of art should be something interesting to think about more than something that is interesting to look at”. Therefore, it is not just a matter of beauty, but the content that we tend to overlook, and the participation of viewers in reading and interpreting the works according to their understanding, should be more important.

นับเป็นหนึ่งในบรรดาช่างภาพชาวไทยที่ประสบความสำเร็จอย่างสูงและเป็นที่รู้จักอย่างกว้างขวางในเวทีต่างประเทศ ผลงานภาพถ่ายของดาวได้ถูกนำไปจัดแสดงที่พิพิธภัณฑ์และหอศิลปะชั้นนำตามเมืองสำคัญๆของประเทศต่างๆ เช่น The Musée du quai Branly in Paris, France; Sattchi Gallery London, U.K; The Field Museum Chicago, USA; The Royal Ontario Museum Canada; Singapore Art Museum; Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, South Korea; GoEun Museum of Photography in Busan, South Korea. ส่วนในเมืองไทย ก็ได้ถูกนำไปแสดงที่หอศิลปะและวัฒนธรรมกรุงเทพฯ พิพิธพัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ หอศิลป พิพิธพัณฑ์ทางภาพ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย และแกลเลอรี่อื่นๆ อีกหลายแห่ง เนื่องจากมีบิดาเป็นนักการทูต ดาวจึงได้ใช้ชีวิตเติบโตอยู่ในต่างประเทศเป็นเวลานานนับหลายปี ไม่ว่าจะเป็นที่ออสเตรเลีย นิวซีแลนด์ หรือสหรัฐอเมริกา ซึ่งประสบการณ์ที่ได้สั่งสมมา จากหลากหลายสังคมและวัฒนธรรมเหล่านั้น ส่งผลให้ดาวสามารถมองเมืองไทยและสังคมไทยได้จากมุมมองของทั้งคนไทยและคนต่างชาติ นับได้ว่า ดาวเป็นช่างภาพคนแรกๆ ในเมืองไทยที่เริ่มทำการค้นหาตัวตนและจิตภาวะอย่างจริงจัง เพื่อถ่ายทอดออกมาเป็นภาพถ่าย อีกทั้งยังมีความตั้งใจในการบันทึกภาพเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับสังคมไทยอีกด้วย ซึ่งการที่ผลงานมีลักษณะสร้างสรรค์เฉพาะตัวอย่างชัดเจน ทำให้ ดาว วาสิกศิริ ได้รับรางวัลต่างๆทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศ หลายรางวัลตลอดระยะเวลาที่ผ่านมา

The work of Dow Wasiksiri, one of Thailand’s most successful and celebrated Artist/Photographer, has been recognized worldwide.

His photographs have been exhibited in many leading international museums and galleries, including The Musée du quai Branly in Paris, France; Sattchi Gallery London, UK; The Field Museum Chicago, USA; The Royal Ontario Museum Canada; Singapore Art Museum, Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, Korea; GoEun Museum of Photography in Busan, South Korea; The National Gallery in Bangkok; Museum of Imaging Technology in Bangkok and the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, just to name a few. The son of a Thai diplomat, Wasiksiri spent his childhood in Western countries such as Australia, New Zealand and the United States. This multi-cultural experience has enabled Wasiksiri to view Thailand’s culture with a dual insider-outsider perspective. Wasiksiri was one of the first Thai photographers to seriously explore his inner psyche and transfer those ideas into photographs. He has also dedicated himself to documenting Thai society as well as doing art photography. His distinctive style has garnered him many local and international awards.
