WELCOME to East Lothian Intergenerational Network
What is going on around town, surrounding villages and their wider rural communities?
If you know of something (or someone who can share some info) let us know and we can add it in.
Dinner at DGS & Penpals project
Dunbar Grammar School absolutely loves their pals from much older generations - with weekly Dinners at DGS, started with Dementia Friendly E. Lothian several years ago, supported by the Rotary, it has grown in popularity and impact. Over Covid, with friends unable to come together, DGS Penpals grew from one pupil wanting to particularly keep in touch with a special grandfriend - who says he is just a wonder.
Petanque
Lauderdale Park
Enjoyable for and with all ages.
Dunbar Wombles
Litter-picking volunteers.
Dunbar, like many communities across E. Lothian have a growing bank of volunteers coming together, different ages, to be environmentally conscious and ensure our communities are more attractive.
Lots of potential to make these groups and activities truly intergenerational by engaging the different age groups meaningfully and ensuring all can contribute to planning, action and evaluation. -
CO-DESIGN - COLLABORATION - CONNECTION -> RELATIONSHIPS!
A wonderful development over Pandemic to make sure grand-friends could stay in touch and others could be included. Started through Dunbar Grammar Dinners, Digital Buddies also has a home at Bleachingfield Centre, supported by Helen Harper (Connected Communities).
Gangsta Grandas are welcome too.
A 'grandparent generation' fun volunteer group - supporting children with their reading and literacy began in Innerwick. (Hopefully it may restart post covid).
A place for old and young to come together - learn and spend time together as well as in other groups. Jackie Burke is a strong believer in intergenerational fashion projects and fun. The latest project may really pique interest - climate action & fashion together in collaboration with "Rebellious Threads" & the Fashion School!
West Barns Village Hall
A chance to come together and enjoy a light lunch and connect with good company - have a blether and nourish the soul as well as the body :)
A lovely glimpse into the delight and fun, alongside development of key lifeskills and health and wellbeing focus, including nutrition, social connection and intergenerational learning for all ages involved. Key Partners for this project are Dunbar Grammar School (staff and pupils), Dunbar Rotary Club and the wider Dunbar Community. Funding for the ingredients cooked initially obtained from Eat Well but the energy and sustaining of this project has come from it being so successful and rewarding. It's recognised as an essential pillar of the community and owes particular thanks to Kirstie McCluckie, employed at DGS and a true IG Champion!
