WELCOME to East Lothian Intergenerational Network
As we left the summer behind, the autumn has brought its own gifts and harvest of work invested over the year.
Planning for our Celebration and Learning is well under way. One Keynote speaker confirmed and another invited.
Save The Date information is being shared and the details for the day are being thoughtfully considered.
To find out more make sure you have signed up for E-notifications and/or keep an eye on our social media.
No monthly network meeting as multiple planning meetings around the network development are scheduled but check out GWT as there are some wonderful sessions coming up.
It's a busy time so lovely to just take some time to head outdoors and enjoy a walk as the leaves turn colours and create a stunning backdrop to any meander.
Keep an eye out for booking opportunities and post-event blog. This will be open to East and Midlothian, but with priority booking for East Lothian, so don't miss out!
Update: Speakers confirmed and event live
Thanks to QMU for hosting the Eventbrite
This time of year creates so many opportunities for conversations, for memories to be made and to be shared with so many seasonal customs.
It's a time for recognising our neighbours and others by sharing food - a gift of something grown as harvest season is celebrated and such a special custom to continue.
In a group of local people of different ages, conversation turned to remembering an old orchard by The Manse, where the adults recalled being children, who helped themselves to an apple or two and picked others for the harvest festival plate. Little did they know that the Minister and his wife counted on this "light looting" to help them gather the apples and share them around the community. The surprise on the faces of the adults, now in late 50s to 60s, who thought their orchard capers were undetected, created much laughter.
The adults all told the children present that they should "never steal fruit from people's trees", yet also claimed they did no harm when they did a little fruit pilfering when young themselves - which the children called them out on of-course!
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing!
A national project is underway which I shared at the beginning of the year - reaching out to many orgs who could have been interested - and happily, Our Community Kitchen took up on the opportunity. OCK are now included in the Creating Intergenerational Communities 3 yr project, which will work with many partners across Scotland, England, N. Ireland and now, Wales too. There are project workers across the national partners - with Louisa employed by GWT to engage and deliver in Scotland. Alongside (global) academic researchers and practitioners IG principles will be explored and new potential Quality Indicators will be created to support all intergenerational projects in the future.
We are excited to see what happens next and if anyone is interested, please do let us know!
