WELCOME to East Lothian Intergenerational Network
Design and share your 'Christmas Bauble' is a lovely, and simple, idea from LGNI that can be enjoyed by both giver and receiver. "Who could you decorate your bauble for?"
THE SEASON OF GOODWILL........& can also be the season of greatest hardship and acute loneliness.
Christmas Cheer and Connection - Inspiration.
Linking Generations in Northern Ireland (LGNI) have also compiled some lovely ideas - so you can join in with Christmas Cheer or be inspired to create your own intergenerational delight (but don't forget to share with all of us too). #IntergenerationalWinter #ChristmasCheer #GrowingTogether #NoAgeism #BreakingStereotypes #KindnessConnects
You are welcome (and encouraged) to share - remembering,
"Caring is not just for Christmas. Make it a Cool Yule" as a very wise 5 yr old said!
The TWELVE DAYS OF (Intergenerational) CHRISTMAS
So – the end of the year is fast approaching with winter solstice, Christmas, Hannukah, and Hogmanay / New Year all beckoning.
The ELIGN network has made lovely connections, growing awareness and focus on intergenerational opportunities.
We thought some simple inspiration might be our best way of ending the year – together!
Read The Twelve Days of Christmas - a little Intergenerational Inspiration as we travel through winter and the season of goodwill.
(These are easily adapted for New Year / winter season too, so you will find some alternative suggestions below; please use however works best for you and your networks.)

Easily changed to New Year traditions / Burns Day or even other national days. Re-cycle Christmas Cracker jokes for National Belly Laugh Day perhaps?
Winter is a time for sharing warming soup and chat - something that can become an intergenerational highlight of the year. Sharing recipes and making together can be a lot of fun too.
Winter wanders can be as short as a little walk around neighbouring houses or to a local shop - but can mean so much to have a buddy, esp on frosty / snowy days.
So many ways for tech to help in homes - from conversations, to prompts for chats / memories shared, ordering grocery order and working with devices that can help with appliances and even opening / closing curtains.
A chat - conversation whether with the parent of young children or a newly retired person, or someone quite housebound...it ALWAYS makes a difference to hear a friendly voice and 'just blether'.
Lots of reasons can reduce someone's confidence, time or ability to take pets out for a walk. This is a definite all-year-round opportunity, but can also be a double up to encourage someone to get out and have a walk n talk :)
Another year-round opportunity. Whether the new to area pregnant mum or recently bereaved person, someone recovering from accident / hosp treatment or person working from home who meets no-one else.
Like singing? Play instruments? Able to help mentor someone learning an instrument? Finding out what happens in local area / county usually comes through hearing from others or deliberate internet searches - so enjoy sharing opportunities.
All the above ideas can be enjoyed all year round - from playing card / board games together to starting a new social enterprise together, supporting children in local schools to sharing the upkeep of a garden (like "Edinburgh's Garden Partners" project.)
And remember - self care is not an indulgence - look after yourself.
