WELCOME to East Lothian Intergenerational Network
Time flies........
and not only when you are having fun!
Intergenerational developments through ELIGN have slowed a bit as I've needed time off to deal with family health matters, but IG work and connections continue to raise spirits, improve lives alongside lots of community events over summer months with annual galas, community days and people enjoying mixing while 'school's out'.
Despite challenges and holiday periods, the spring and summer have been full of developments with many groups and organisations being so busy. We look forward to hearing more through the network as meetings re-start. I have certainly missed the uplifting gatherings in person and online so it will be good to re-connect and catch up.
The DEMENTIA STRATEGY for East Lothian is available in draft form for comment - something we all can contribute too (and please do remember the value of IG working and connections within it). You can find out more about the work to develop the draft (and links to the Scottish strategy) through DFEL summer newsletter. The draft strategy closes for comment 31st Aug - so don't miss out. 😀 Exciting to hear how things are developing in Musselburgh with the Meeting Centre and plans afoot to keen developing enriching relationships there.
The East Lothian Integrated Joint Board (IJB) Strategy can be found and downloaded here.
"Intergenerational News from GWT". There was a Level 1 training day back in May, here in E. Lothian, that I helped organise so it was wonderful to see some familiar faces were there and I hope it was already of some use to those attending. You may also have taken part in the Global Intergenerational Week (#GIW23) events at the end of April, so take a look at the Impact Report now published. Some of the GWT team were over in Washington DC for the Generations United Conference - sharing work in Scotland / UK and making wonderful links with others passionate about intergenerational networks in the States - so we can all look forward to more international learning to support all of us on a local level too. Work is ongoing on writing new standards for Intergenerational Work too (with local engagement) and the next International Certificate in Intergenerational Practice (Edition 4) is due to commence mid September, which we have centred an opportunity around. See below 👇

**HUGE thanks to Sue!**
With DFEL we did reach stage 3 of a funding application which would have been used to continue to develop ELIGN. Unfortunately confusion reigned regarding accounts maintained by CIC compared to a SCIO / charity and we were left unable to proceed further sadly. It's a difficult situation for work such as ours - but all the more important to share opportunities for orgs, groups and partnerships to find the financial support needed to develop and sustain intergenerational work. If you see something, or could be part of a rewarding partnership - please do share this through the network.
Despite continuing to work towards our big celebration of the work to date and learning event in May, it did need to be postponed but NEVER FEAR - plans are afoot again. Please do save the date in your diary / calendar Thursday 9th November 2023.
Keynote Speaker: Dr Suzanne Zeedyk
It will be a day's event with information and booking link available soon.
Many thanks to QMU team for supporting this!
Such a pleasure to join this workshop which followed the in-person event in March. Both led by Dr Katey Warran
If curious, and interested, you can read more about the research work of ECRED on their blog and enjoy the video created from the March event. (click to play in new tab).
