Conversation Confusion
You have probably seen that sometimes a friend can say something that seems random. Often, people can be focused on a single thought or concept and have a hard time breaking out of that focus.
Sometimes friends can stick to their topic because they find it comforting.
To play, pair up and have one or two extra students playing the role of 'confuser'. Instruct the pairs of students to begin a conversation about their favorite movie.
The 'confuser' must run to a pair of students and tap one of their shoulders, taking their place in the pair. Then the 'confuser' begins talking about anything they choose, with the exception of the movie. The child who has been tapped runs to another pair and assumes the role of the 'confuser' by repeating the routine.
This continues until everyone in the class has had a turn at being the 'confuser'.
Now discuss how it felt to have someone break into a conversation with a totally different topic, and discuss strategies to overcome this.
