The Kindergarten classroom is full of action and activity! While the majority of the day is spent inside the Kindergarten classroom, there will be times throughout the day where your child’s class takes a trip down the stairs to the library for story time or down the steps to the recess yard. Using the stairs independently can often be challenging for little bodies, especially if they have had little practice! We recommend trying out the activities below with your child to help boost their confidence on the stairs in preparation for Kindergarten.
Practice using the stairs in different environments - outside, inside, and in new places! Practice, practice, practice.
Get silly and practice stomping your feet like a big monster or an ancient dinosaur!
Set up a “tightrope” in your house or out on the sidewalk using string, tape, or sidewalk chalk. Encourage your child to walk normally, or on tip toes, or while taking large leaps, all while maintaining their balance as they walk.
