Balancing on one foot is an important skill to have! It allows us to step into the shower, walk up stairs one foot in front of the other, and balance while we put on our pants or shoes without sitting down. Practicing this skill will increase your child’s confidence and safety in doing these types of activities!
Tips & Tricks to learning balance:
Explicit practice of standing on one foot can be made fun through a balancing contest! Encourage your child to stare at a point straight ahead of them that is not moving to help them balance.
Have your child try balancing on one foot to pop bubbles with their toes!
Sing and dance to songs like the Hokey Pokey or the videos below:
Use tape, chalk, or cracks in the sidewalk and encourage your child to practice their balance by walking along them like a balance beam.
