Clean up time is a collective effort in Kindergarten where all Kindergarteners and teachers work together to clean up their space! What we, as adults, might consider a simple task of bending over to pick something up can be quite challenging for little ones who are still developing their core and gross motor muscle strength.
There are so many fun ways to help children increase their overall core and supporting muscle strength without it feeling like a chore! Listed are some great suggestions for activities that you can use at home!
Practice clean up time at home. Encourage your child to bend down and pick up their toys when they are done with them. This will start getting your child into the routine of using those motions and cleaning up after themselves!
Play animal charades! Encourage your children to act out their favourite jungle and desert animals. You might try walking around like a monkey, stomping like an elephant, or spreading your wings like a bird! Get creative.
Set up your own at home garden patch full of veggies, fruits or pretty flowers. Involve your child in digging the soil, planting the seeds, and bending down to pat the soil. Then once your veggies or fruits mature, encourage your child to bend down and harvest their goods!
Set up a treasure hunt inside or outdoors! Place different items all around the floor of your house or in your yard and task your child with collecting all of the treasure.
