The difference between tu and vous:
They both mean "you"
tu is informal vous is formal (if used in the singular)
tu is always singular vous can be singular (formal) or plural (formal or informal)
My general rule of thumb is that if you would call someone Mr. or Mrs., you would probably call them vous.
