As we have discussed about the nine nations of North America, each region has its own flavor, values and unique traits. Please choose a state or region in North America that is NOT Vermont. You may do a different state inf New England such as Maine or Connecticut, but not New England as a region.
Please choose 5 of the following topics, and write 2-3 sentences about each one in a ggole doc that you create and share with me at bbrodie@bsdvt.org. If you finish early, you may do more than 5. Also, after you have put in text, you may also add images to your google doc.The second half of the assignment is to compare this to Vermont, so as you read your information, please think about how this state or region is the same as Vermont, and how it's different. You will have two days to do this assignment.
#1 Choose 5 of the following topics:
climate
geography
industry
natural resources
types of music they listen to
transportation (including popular types of cars)
make up of the population and predominant cultures such as Hispanic, Asian, European, Middle Eastern or African decent. (See if you can figure out why.)
popular sports and hobbies
rural vs urban
rating for educational system
popular foods
liberal vs conservative
EX. If you were studying California and you were discussing popular sports, you might mention that surfing and beach volleyball are popular. This is because California has a very long coastline with lots of beaches and it's climate allows for swimming most of the year.
#2 After you have finished discovering information about your region or state, please write two sentences about each topic comparing and contrasting it to Vermont or Burlington culture.
EX. If you had chosen the geography of Nevada you might say: Most of Nevada is a flat dry dessert unlike Vermont. In Vermont there are many forests and streams. In the far western part of Nevada are the mountains by Lake Tahoe. That looks much more like Vermont because there are mountains and pine trees.
#3 Once you have your information AND you have compared it to Vermont, please look for visuals that will support your text. An then if you still have time...google fun facts about your area... have some fun with it!
#4 Finally, say whether you would want to live there or not and WHY.
#5 YOU WILL BE PRESENTING YOUR REGION IN CLASS ON FRIDAY..YOU MAY KEEP IT AS A GOOGLE.DOC OR USE GOOGLE PRESENTATION IF YOU WOULD PREFER.
