Reflexive verbs are often used in Romance languages with verbs of daily hygiene (to bathe, to get dressed, to shower, to brush your hair), verbs of change of status (to get married, to get divorced, to become), verbs of emotion, (to get angry, to feel) and to reinforce a verb.
With these verbs you have to use a reflexive pronoun, so when you say "je me lave le visage" literally you are saying "I wash myself the face".
This is how you use the pronouns. First add the reflexive pronoun, and then conjugate the verb as you would conjugate any verb . If you wash your car or wash your dog, it is not a reflexive verb so you would just conjugate laver appropriately. EX Je lave le chien or il lave sa voiture.
