Los Portafolios
Your portfolios represent the progress you have made in Spanish class this year. If you have kept up with all your work and put graded copies and rubrics in your folders as you have been instructed all year long, the process of putting your portfolio together is quite simple. Organize your materials, make clean copies with final corrections, and follow the given instructions. Remember, this is your first year. Portfolio assessment is becoming more and more implemented as an assessment tool. It's good to know how to put a portfolio together. You will need some kind of binder or plastic report folder to bind your portfolio together.
Cover : All information should be in Spanish on the cover. When there are a couple of different words that might be used, I have tried to give you both so you can choose.
example : Mi Carpeta or Mi Portafolio

You can do fun visuals as well if you have time, but the main information is what is important.

This is one format you can use...you can either number the pages or the “sections”. Don’t forget you need all rough drafts or organizers that you used for your work. Your minimum is the three oral pieces, three written pieces and two comprhension pieces. Your portfolio will not be accpeted without the minimum number of pieces. You can also put in other works if you want to demonstrate an even greater amount of progress, but this is not the place for quizzes and tests or homework papers, unless they support one of your presentation pieces. For example, if you use your restaurant activity as one of your oral pieces, you may want to put the written version in as well to demonstrate your written vs. oral ability, but it is not necessary.
The Preface : The preface is where you tell the reader what is in your portfolio. You should mention two to three sentences about each piece.
Presentation of works : Put your already corrected papers here. The portfolio which exceeds the standard is the one that has “final” drafts correcting the mistakes on your corrected versions. BE SURE TO INCLUDE ALL DRAFTS AND ALL RUBRICS.
The Self-Evaluation - you need to evaluate your ability to read, write, speak, and understand oral Spanish. You also need to talk about your ability to appreciate Hispanic culture. You should write at least 3 to 5 snetences about each aspect of learning. It’s Ok to to admit what are your strengths and what are your challenges.
Examples of reading are : sentences, dialogs, my mi familia essay, questions etc.
Examples of writing are : sentences, answers to questions, your dialogs, your essays, etc.
Examples of speaking are: asking and answering questions, your presentations, performing dialogs, reading Spanish aloud, asking to get a drink etc.
Examples of oral understanding are : understanding my directions, understanding numbers when spoken, understanding when as student asks you a question in Spanish etc.
Ability to appreciate Hispanic Culture is learning about the Colombia, learning about hispanic holiday customs, foods, learning about Spanish speaking countries in the context of the units we are studying etc.
Peer Evaluation : You can use “compañero” instead of “amigo” if you like. This is when you are almost finished with your portfolio and you ask a peer to review it.They will write 5-8 sentences which describe your portfolio's strengths and feedback about how you could improve your portfolio next year.
Parent Evaluation : This is where your parents get an opportunity to comment on your portfolio. Remember, they do not need to be able to read Spanish to comment on this, they just need to comment on how you present your work. They should look over your self evaluation and the quality of the work presented and comment on progress demonstrated, the strengths of your portfolio, and feedback about how you could improve your portfolio next year.
Portfolios will be due before the end of the day on Tuesday, June 5th. This counts as 10% of your Spanish grade....and this is easy to put together, so keep up with it!
