Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students.

meeting the needs of diverse learners

Overview:

These artifacts highlight my many efforts to advocate for and educate on how educators can use technology to meet the diverse needs of students. Through my numerous presentations and blog posts on accessibility and differentiation, I am able to provide teachers with resources that will help them address the needs of their students, who all have a variety of learning styles and abilities.

Reflection:

I have always believed that not all students learn the same way. By creating these artifacts, I hope that I can help teachers understand that they will find their students to be more successful and more motivated once they start meeting their individual needs. My current position allows me the opportunity to lead this effort and advocate for this change.

Making Digital Content Accessible for Learners

Artifact: Digital Accessibility Certification Program

Overview:

This artifact highlights the TxDLA Digital Accessibility Certification Program. As a Board Member of TxDLA, I am always advocating for accessibility for individuals with disabilities to digital materials. This is one of the major technology issues of our time.

Reflection:

I am very proud of this artifact and my work to help advocate for accessibility in my role as K-12 Education Director on the TxDLA Board of Directors. This online certification program took many hours to plan, organize, and prepare. We offer this 31 hour self-paced online certification three to four times a year. The certification provides participants with an understanding of current legal enforcement actions, resolution agreements, consent decrees and Universal Design for Learning, while equipping them with practical skills in making digital content accessible. With the growth of online learning, and the increased use of digital materials in blended and flipped classrooms in K-12 and higher education, it is more important now than ever that accessibility be considered.
