evaluating websites

Artifacts:

      1. Reading and Evaluating Search Results Challenge
      2. Evaluating Accuracy of Online Information Challenge

Overview:

These artifacts reflect two activities I created for examining online resources. The first activity challenges students to apply questioning strategies to the list of search result about their research topic. The second activity challenges students to ask probing questions regarding the legitimacy of sites they are using for their research.

Reflection:

These artifacts are important to me barbecue it's imperative that we teach our students how to evaluate online information. The quality of information found online is extremely variable. Anyone can post data and information on the Internet and not all online sources are equally reliable, valuable, or accurate. Students need to know how to carefully evaluate information found online before relying on it for their research. After completing these activities, it will be great to see how students transfer their new skills when searching for and reading online information .

digital citizenship & Cybersafety curriculum

Artifact: Digital Citizenship & CyberSafety Initiative

Overview:

This artifact highlights the Digital Citizenship & CyberSafety initiative I started when I worked at Del Valle ISD. The primary purpose of the initiative was to promote digital citizenship and cybersafety education for all Del Valle ISD students, educators, and academic community, as well as to ensure accountability for eRate funding and Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance. The activities found on the lesson page provide students with curriculum about evaluating legitimate sources and finding credible sources on the Internet.

Reflection:

When I arrived at Del Valle ISD, they didn't have a digital citizenship program in place. As the Instructional Technology Coordinator for the district, I developed this program so that we could educate all students as well as staff on how to make positive choices in the online environment. The initiative was well-received and it is still being implemented today.
