Artifact: Going Global: One Book at a Time
Overview:
This artifact is an article I wrote about The Global Read Aloud (GRA) project. In writing this article, it was my hope that other teachers would be inspired to make global connections with their students.
Reflection:
I was able to interview educators from Pearland ISD in order to write this article. I learned so much from them and their efforts to make global connections a part of their students’ education. The Global Read Aloud (GRA) project has one simple goal in mind: one book to connect the world. Teachers choose a book to read aloud to their students make as many global connections as possible. These connections are motivating students to read and helping them understand cultural differences as well.
Artifact: Explore Google Earth's Brown Bear Livecams
Overview:
This artifact is a blog entry I wrote about how to incorporate live video cams into instruction. To connect to the real world, students don't even have to leave their school. They can accomplish this through live video feeds that will take them virtually anywhere so that they may get authentic learning experiences.
Reflection:
This artifact is one of my favorites. This is because I am an avid watcher of the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam. I can't tell you how much I have learned from the two years that I have been watching. Students can learn so much as well. Not only do they get to see these animals in their natural habitats, students can also participate in virtual chats and access education materials through many of the sites.
