Artifact: IceBreakers eBook
Overview:
This artifact is an eBook I created that give teachers ideas for conducting icebreakers in their classroom. The purpose of this is so that teachers can get to know their students and their interests. Giving teachers an insight into how their students learn will allow them to adapt their teaching style so that every student will feel valued.
Reflection:
I always encourage teachers to conduct icebreakers in order to get to know their students. It always helps if the icebreakers are engaging and incorporate technology. As you will see in the book, utilizing platforms such as Flipgrid allows students to have open discussion and talk about themselves, positive experience from past classes, etc.
Artifact: Station Rotation Activity | Station Links
Overview:
This artifact is an example of learning stations I set up for one of my workshops on using technology for vocabulary acquisition. I use learning stations in my workshops so that participants can have choice in their learning based on their interests.
Reflection:
Whether its due to culture, preference or learning needs, students respond differently to different types of content, therefore, I like to set up learning stations. Each station uses a unique method of teaching a skill or concept related to the topic. After going through some of the stations, the participants can further process the information with reflection or discussion. The station rotation activity take a lot of time to set up but it's well worth it.
Artifact: Blended Learning Strategies for the Connected Classroom
Overview:
This artifact is an example of problem-based scenarios I set up for one of my workshops on blended learning. I use problem-based scenarios because they present a relatable real-world problem for my participants to solve, which allows for cultural connections to occur.
Reflection:
The flexibility of problem-based learning lends itself well to culturally-responsive teaching. With the scenarios I set up, participants apply different approaches to solve the problems and use unique cultural perspectives. I always enjoy hearing the different ways they problem solve.
Artifact: Adaptive Teaching Workshop
Overview:
This artifact is a workshop I conducted on adaptive teaching. The goal of this workshop was to encourage educators to adapt content for each student on an individual basis, with the help of technology.
Reflection:
I learned a lot about adaptive teaching while preparing for this workshop. I believe that by delivering culturally-responsive lessons, educators can engage students and allow them to make personal connections with content.
