The Sound-Byte

The Sound-Byte was introduced in 1990 by Structured Technology. It is an easy to use GEM based sound generator capable of generating "sound-bytes" utilising the YM2149F. The UI is split into 3 sections called channels, for each of the YM's 3 voices. On each of the channels you can control tone parameters, inclusive of the noise generator, as well as the ability to employ waveform envelopes per channel. Once constructed, you can play your "sample" to hear the fruits of your labour. It is very simple, quick, and gives a nice rudimentary visual representation of the YM2149F sound chip. Unfortunately the sounds cannot be saved or exported, however there is no reason why each creation cannot be sampled by an external sampler.
