DIGIT II was conceived in 1993, and followed Galactic's lineage of samplers for the Atari TOS range, from Volks-Sampler, to Sample Wizard and Sample Star. Influenced from this catalogue as well as Galactic's own DIGIT, from which it gets its name. However where DIGIT is a visually pleasing and capable tracker for the ST, DIGIT II is a powerful modular based sample suite for the Atari Falcon. It was available in various guises, with DIGIT II Studio forming the basis, DIGIT II MIDI and DIGIT II Master for example. Depending on the version, included modules are tailored for various functions. It is capable of handling 8 and 16-bit samples up to a sample rate of 50 kHz internally, or 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz respectively via the Atari Falcon's DSP. It has specific options for the usual Steinberg FDI and SoundPool SPDIF digital interfaces, as well as the Pocket SPDIF Interface from Blow Up, and Intelligent Digital Audio's Perfect Link via its Digital In module. Other interesting modules include Block Edit, where a sample can be marked into multiple blocks and triggered at a key press, akin to 'chopping', the Synthesiser module which allows additive synthesis techniques to be applied to a sample, and the DSP Effects module. Ending with DIGIT II version 2.5, it can also directly record to HD, whether IDE or SCSI, and can handle WAV, AVR, Sample Star / Wizard formats amongst others, not forgetting its own GSM format.
