Sound Designer

Sound Designer by Digidesign was introduced and ported from the Mac in 1988, and is a universal MIDI sample editor, officially called Sound Designer Universal,.  This was due to it being named so on the Mac, to distinguish it from its dedicated Sound Designer products for the same, beginning with Sound Designer for the Emu Emulator II.  On the ST, it supports any sampler supporting MIDI SDS, the Akai S700 / X7000, Akai S900, Casio FZ-1, Emu Emax, Ensoniq EPS, Ensoniq Mirage, Korg DSS-1, Korg DSM-1, Roland S10 / S220 / MKS100, Roland S50, Sequential Prophet 2000 and Yamaha TX16W samplers.

It does have software copy protection, like most if not all Digidesign software for TOS computers, and although it can be copied to a hard drive, the software has to be run with the "original" main master floppy disk.  Versions of this type of copy protection is also used on some software by SoundPool.  Sound Designer Universal ended with version 1.5.
