The Digital Master Expanded, referred to as the Digital Master EX and sometimes the DM-EX 4, was conceived around 1992 by Hybrid Arts, and realised by Digital F/X Inc. who acquired HAI after their sad end. It is essentially an ADAP IV, just not in name, and even though I did not want to include digital multitracks / early DAWs which can record more than two tracks in the listing, it deserves to rightly round off the ADAP series.

As alluded, it continues where the Digital Master left off, and is a D2D mulitrack recorder offering 4 channels and 16 tracks of recording and editing. The complete system comprises of three 1U housed racks, incorporating two 16-bit ADC or analogue modules, and one 16-bit DAC or digital module with SCSI II, an RS-422 for Video Machine Control for example, one digital optical input, two digital coaxial ins and 2 digital coaxial outs, SMPTE and an RS-232 for remote connectivity. It can record up to a sample rate of 48 kHz internally, and externally up to 50 kHz.
