DAME running on the Falcon

DAME

DAME by the Dutch outfit OMT (now Technica Del Arte) was released for the Atari ST circa 1988 to 1989. The initial release date for the ST series is by and large inconclusive, but the manual suggests 1988. If that year is a true indication of the year of release, this would indeed be the first affordable D2D recorder for a home computer. What is it? Well, the Digital Audio Multilayering & Editing package consists of both the software and hardware interfaces, self described as a 16-bit audio workstation. The interfaces which connect via the cartridge port, comprises of a digital interface and an analogue interface. The analogue interface has two sets of MIDI in and outs, and again two sets of digital in and outs. It allows an ST to directly record two tracks on an attached hard drive at up to 48 kHz on a Mega STE running at 16 mHz, or potentially an accelerated ST running at 16 mHz.

Around 1993, DAME was released for the Falcon. On the Falcon DAME can record direct to hard disk, utilising the Falcon's internal DSP at up to 50 kHz. DAME rounded out at version 3.2.
