Dodekia (2038-2189)
Introduction
Dodekia was a moderately sized dictatorial wildstate. Unlike its neighbours, Nowa Republika Polska and Twadorskiego, Dodekia never got the ability to develop itself much, nor did local nationalism fester much. This ultimately was Dodekia's downfall, as the occupation forces of Nowa Polska were met with a defensive force one can barely consider an army.
Lechia (2043-2204)
Introduction
Lechia was an old Polish wild state, established on the eastern side of the Polish Sea. It is noteworthy for militarily dominating its nearby wild states for a long while. in the recent past, however, it has been slowly integrated into the larger Nowa Polska.
Karmazynowe Państwo (2058-2199, 2199-2309)
Introduction
Karmazynowy Państwo is a federation of small states. Like many wild states in the area, Karmazynowy Panstwo expanded both through the fear of larger wild states. KP is special as this federation of Polish wild states is one of only three Polish states recognised by Nowa Polska (on the moon). It gained this recognition in both to appease and ward off the NDR, who Nowa Polska feared would instil socialist revolutionaries within its borders to rise up.
Karmazynowy Państwo was established by the four small Wildstates Kiel, Lilowie, Leczyce, and Republika Wadska united in order to protect themselves from the larger Powonia, Nowe Opole, Dzikie Pola, and Rudopolska Wildstates. The tables turned on Dzikie Pola as the combined forces of the united Polish wild states were able to beat it back.
Karmazynowy Państwo was so militarily competent, that they managed to beat back the armies of Dzikie Polska and Rudopolska simultaneously. This saved them from a nation breaking raid period and allowed Nowa Polska to conquer these weakened lands.
Księżycowe Królestwo Polskie (2035-2309)
Introduction
The Lunar Kingdom of Poland is a large conglomerate of states with various levels of autonomy. The nation started off as a small trading outpost called Stanisławów from which it quickly expanded. Surprisingly, Its expansion was anything but certain. It never received large equipment donations like Ostów, nor did it have the manpower of Warsko and Kraina Potoków. It, therefore, went under the radar for a long time. Księżycowe Królestwo Polskie’s time to shine came after the succession crisis in Warsko. After the death of the local dictator/monarch, there was neither a popular heir, nor a person with enough influence to project their power over all of Warsko. The Lunar Kingdom of Poland took advantage of the chaos and supported the young prince’s claim, though the boy would never get to rule his country, as a week after retaking Warsko city, he mysteriously died. Now, the enlarged and emboldened Polish state could expand even more. States like Ostów who were losing the equipment support that once made them so strong fell with relative ease, while bastions like Bukowice, required long gruelling conflicts.
Ostów (1996-2216)
Introduction
Ostów was a moderately successful wildstate, situated on the mouth of the vesiń river, north of modern-day Jianshan. Back in the day, this area was extremely sparsely populated. To account for this, their system of governance was very centralised.
Early days
In the early days, Ostów was blessed with one thing: 108 all-terrain support rovers armed with two guns. These rovers were given to them by the central government in Nowa Polska. Nowa Polska knew they wouldn't be able to project power all the way across jungles and mountains. They instead saw the value in empowering a Polish ally in the area. Ostów would use these rovers to protect tributary towns allowing for its rapid expansion over the plains surrounding the Vesiń river. More importantly, these rovers would be used in 4 controversial attacks:
The first was the attack on the British port of Selsham in 2068. Here, 48 rovers would attack a small armed outpost. In total, Ostów would lose 148 men, and 3 Rovers were unrepairable, while a further 12 would be out of service for a long time. The British would lose ~1.000 men (1.800-2.400 including civilians).
The second was the attack on Golubyye Vody, the capital of a local Russian wildstate. Due to repeated attacks and the losses at Selsham, only 35 rovers would be present, though that was made up for the larger infantry manpower brought. The entire city was raised and an estimated 60-70% of the ~15.000 went missing or were killed.
The third attack was on the Cantonese town of Fengzhen in 2071. Here 61 rovers and 10.000 infantrymen descended down upon the large fortified town.
To the north and south of the town were a few hills unsuitable for rovers. To the east of the town, there was a prominent forest used for timber which too was unsuitable for rover warfare due to the dense tree line and muddy mossy undergrowth. This meant that Ostów forces were funnelled down a small corridor to the west. Aleksy Wójcik, positioned 10 of his rovers downriver, where they would shoot at any ships they saw. 100 of his men were made to construct a temporary wooden bridge over the island. A further 60 or so were made to find passages that'd allow the rovers to get up the hill from where they could fire down on the city indiscriminately. The rest of his men dug trenches around parts of the city and attempted to light the forest and city on fire.
83 days after the siege began, Polish troops to the south, defending the bridge, were ambushed by some 600 men of a nearby village. In this attack, 80 Polish foot soldiers died, the bridge connecting half of the Polish troops to their supplies was destroyed, 2 rovers were destroyed, and 4 were captured. Following this, the garrison of Fengzhen made a desperate assault on the Polish troops in the trenches that were now cut off from Aleksy’s command post. The southern polish trenches were manned by 3.000 dug in footmen, alongside 23 rovers. The Cantonese garrison would send out 7.000 of its 9.000 men with all 5 of their rovers. The ambushing soldiers from the south pulled back the 3 of the 4 rovers they captured and attacked with 530 men and the leftover rover, though Fengzhen was under the presumption their ally sent the promised 3000 men and 6 rovers. Immediately, the charging Fengzhen soldiers were hit by the rovers from both sides of the river. Only 4.500 men would reach the Polish trenches. Of the southern force, none would reach the trenches. In the end, 2.680 Polish men died and 16 rovers were lost. The subsequent attack on Fengzhen was less an attack and more a massacre.
Lastly came the attack on Chiangping in 2075, where 22 rovers alongside 15.000 men steamrolled the Han Chinese Town. Chiangping had fortified its town meagerly in the few days of warning they had. The rovers sped through and broke the Chinese lines with ease. So far from help, the town knew it was lost. The governor of the town changed its plans from survival, to damaging the Ostów war machine so they would not be able to reign pain and tyranny over their brethren. While fighting the men under his command, Ostów lost 19 of their 22 rovers. In the end, Ostów did capture the town, but the severe loss in rivers forced it to pull back a mere 4 months later.
The Latter Days
Later on, Ostów's army would fall into serious disrepair as Nowa Polska stopped sending arms to far-flung Polish communities. The first major blow came when Shin Zhongguo was able to easily destroy the Ostówan navy and threatened to shell the governmental palace in Ostów city. The treaty of Hēiyàoshí Wan forced Ostów to give Full citizenship to ethnic Chinese people and gave some of its territories near-complete autonomy. The second major blow that ended up being the end of Ostów was the destruction of its armed forces in the battle of Warsko. Following its defeat, it was integrated into the larger Księżycowe Królestwo Polskie.
Nowa Jaksa (2083-2231)
Introduction
Nowa Jaksa is notable for being the longest-lasting of the northeastern Polish wild states. This gave it an air of legitimacy and still has a prominent local identity as a part of Nowa Polska.
This beautiful mountainous nation was filled with many non-Polish people, mostly refugees from the Honey, and Brook Communes. Because of this, it developed a rather progressive and collective-oriented culture. Because of this greater focus on the welfare of the collective, the nation grew quite wealthy for its local area. Though this all fell apart when it was conquered by Nowa Polska. Due to this, there still is an actively rebelling paramilitary.
Nowe Opole (2065-2309)
Introduction
Nowe Opole is a moderately sized though dirt-poor nation. It has kept itself out of conflict for much of its life. This means that it is a moderately stable political entity making it a place where many treaties between (wild) states were and are signed.
Nowe Opole is isolationist to its core in most manners. Its armed officer corps will chase down any group that enters their territories without permission. To aid in this, it has erected a large border fence with its neighbour Purpuraj Statoj and Yoralia. This border fence, much like that between Darwin and Shin Nihon, is very bloody and has been the repeated focus of human rights abuse cases.
Nowa Polska (1956-2300)
Introduction
Nowa Polska, commonly referred to as New Poland, was the first and only official colony set up by the Polish Space Agency. It was set up shortly after the great raid of Russian lands. An event in which the Polish garrison stole a lot of Russian, but also German, equipment. While Poland remained corrupt with very little industrialisation, this massive influx of high-quality rockets alongside droves of POWs allowed Poland to quickly expand their presence in the Lunar lands previously assigned to Russia.
New Poland is the largest and third most prosperous Polish state on the moon. It has a strong and complex economy, a working constitutional monarchical democracy and a healthy stable industrial base. While it has a couple of large ethnic minorities in its borders, so far it has been able to stem the tide of rebellion through military force.
Ever since ~2140, Nowa Polska has been on a widespread Lunar campaign to gain control over all Polish states. In the eyes of Nowa Polska, these Polish states are all illegitimate wild states that should become part of the larger and true Polish state of Nowa Polska. One only has to glimpse at maps from 2300 and 2150 to see the sheer vastness of their conquest.
Nowa Republika Polska (1998-2309)
Introduction
Nowa Republika Polska (New Polish Republic) is a small formerly Polish colony, though that does not diminish its global influence. While its population is a fifth that of neighboring Nowa Polska, its GDP is about 80% of its larger neighbour. One of the notable differences between these two states is in their religious demographics, with Nowa Republika Polska having a sizeable Jewish populace, another is the state's removal of their monarch and even doing away with a figurehead.
In the past, relations with neighboring Nowa Polska, while not being friendly, were at least amicable, allowing for limited trade between the two states. Nowa Polska considered their neighbours' territory analogous to autonomous borderlands, but in 2147 a sudden upheaval would occur. Following a series of border skirmishes, ending in the destruction of three nearby villages within Nowa Republika Polskan territory. After this, the borders between Nowa Polska and pretty much all Polish wildstates, including Nowa Republika Polska, were closed.
This lack of normal relations with Nowa Polska put Nowa Republika Polska in a rough spot. It directly bordered the heartlands of its eastern neighbours and had little to no method of cultural differentiation, while Nowa Polska was actively taking land on the basis of culture. Over the course of 50 years, Nowa Republika Polska ceded more and more lands to Nowa Polska and their troops inched closer and closer. This halted when the independent wildstate of Dodekia, north of Nowa Republika Polska, was fully annexed by Nowa Polska following a coup in 2186. What followed was a period of armed conflict between the two states over hundreds of border disputes that had previously been ignored.
During the Great Lunar War, Nowa Republika Polska played as an incinerating part, as war was declared over its disputed territories. Because of this, Nowa Republika Polska was one of the three first members of the war in the Polish Belt. This war would ultimately develop into the Great Lunar War.
Like Twadorskiego, Nowa Republika Polska's strategy was centred around the use and abuse of strategic geography, combined with the bombing of enemy supply networks. To this end, Nowa Republika Polska had expanded its quick response railway systems over the last three decades. These would play an important role in halting Nowa Polska's advance into Nowa Republika Polska. Later in the war, Nowa Republika Polska would begin the implementation of biologically engineered viruses. Due to the use of these, Nowa Republika Polska has been criticised by both allies and enemies. Within Nowa Republika Polska itself, tones are more mixed. As the biologically engineered virus was released, the army of Nowa Polska was severely effected, while its own troops and populous were immunised suffering little to no casualties. For this reason, Nowa Republika Polska has defended their actions as "necessary for the continued survival of the nation".
Twadorskiego (1997-2309)
Introduction
Twadorskiego was a very early Wild State and profited off of this by developing more than many other wild states had the chance to. This greater development instilled nationalism for the local state into its populace and allowed it to militarily and diplomatically protect itself from the larger Nowa Polska. A notable example of a less developed wildstate that didn't get this luxury was Dodekia, which was right in the crosshairs of Nowa Polska.
In the late 23rd century, however, Twadorskiego too lies on the chopping block. Nowa Polska was eyeing the land of Twadorskiego for a long time. When compared to Nowa Polska’s last conquests, Twadorskiego is much closer to their heartlands. This small rich Polish-speaking wildstate had something much more valuable, though. Strategic geographic against armies in the north. You see, Twadorskiego is flanked to the south by mountains, to the north by a large lake, to the east by a small less plain, and to the north by mountains nearing the coast of the lake. This means, while Twadorskiego is really well-defended from the north, any army allied with it attacking Nowa Polska would already be in the central plain region.
During the pre-war, formally called the War over the Polish Belt, Twadorskiego was one of two states Nowa Polska declared war on in May of 2297. Twadorskiego and Nowa Republika Polska, while having a far smaller combined military force, did have naval, and aerial supremacy. The defence of Twadorskiego came in large part down to the destruction of enemy infrastructure and supply hubs through bombings. When Indigo and Zema joined the war effort on Twadorskiego’s side, Twadorskiego forces were able to properly prepare trenches and dig down on their positions. This slowed down the Nowa Polskan army substantially yet was unable to fully halt their offensive. By the beginning of 2299, Twadorskiego was left with less than 10% of its country. From March of 2299 till their liberation in 2306, a new regional puppet state-controlled the old Twadorskiego lands.
