New Africa (Expedition Period 1979-2087, New Guinea Coast 2087-2101, New Africa 2101-2309)
Introduction
The nation of New Africa, formerly known as the Guinea Coast Expeditionary Territories, is one of 6 lunar states that is ethnically mostly African. Its wide fertile plains and large calm rivers allow for it to prosper. And with the new canal works, trade can flow through the entire nation.
New Africa, like many others, started as a wild state with minor British support. At the start of its existence, the relocation and expedition missions to what’s now the city of New Bayelsa were seen by the ethnic Africans as a thinly veiled attempt by Britain and France to maintain their stranglehold over Africa. Those at the Lunar rocketry stations saw White Europeans take positions of power and control everything, while the African workers got downtrodden. Neither in the lodges nor out in the field could migrants get past this truth, everywhere they went, they were treated unequally. When a black landowner, Ayomide Adeleke, discovered that none of the equipment, not even the rockets, New Africa used were even the property of the Guinea Coast Space Agencies, tensions skyrocketed. British control over the rockets flew in the face of treaties signed with the people of New Africa in light of instances where the lack of control of rockets was used to strangle fletchling nations.
During the elections for governor of the capital in the following year, Adeleke was the presumed winner, holding popular support. However, a month before the elections were to be held, incumbent governor James Skye, suddenly placed Adeleke under arrest. Skye reasoned that the arrest was justified, as Adeleke was suspected of inciting revolutionary and violent ideals, but most people saw through his corruption. When riots broke out, Pro-Adeleke followers charged the prison where Adeleke was kept, only to find his mangled corpse.
Adeleke now functioned as a martyr figure for the rioters, who now grew only larger and more violent. Oluwatosin Ude, a prominent figure among the rioters, gave a three-hour speech while Adeleke's body was burning in the governor’s house, set aflame by the rioters to cremate their former leader in the house he should have worked in. Ude spoke continuously and riled up the crowd in front of him in what the British and French called the second speech of Mark Anthony. They alleged he only did this for personal gain, but the crowd did not see it that way. The crowd saw a new leader in front of them.
Following the riots, much of the equipment of rocketry and military agencies were seized. Though on paper the Economic Union of the Guinea Coast now had half of their former Rocketry navy, in reality, their carrying capacity had grown by 25%. This was because they could now use the full navy for themselves alone. Following this, the wild state of the New Guinea Coast was established and later changed to New Africa to showcase their openness to all of their African brethren.
While the nation had some trouble growing stronger and more stable, it was eventually able to do so. Nowadays, it is a very prosperous and densely populated nation, here, yearly feasts and festivals showcase the brighter and happier future that awaits them.
Afrique Lunaire (Expedition Period 1983-2087, New Guinea Coast 2087-2309)
Introduction
Afrique Lunaire is a French-speaking African descendant state. It started off, much like it southern brother, as a mining and hard labour expeditionary colony. After large-scale riots that disposed of the Colonial leadership in both New Africa and Afrique Lunaire, the world looked at how these brother nations would grow. No one could have guessed how much these two similar-sounding states would deviate. Where the brits had improved local infrastructure and industrial sites, France mostly left the land barren, exploited, and uneducated. Afrique Lunaire fell to despotism and quickly became the evil opposing state for many in New Africa.
