Introduction
The Gaiko Commune is a small socialist state in the Kaelyn Sea. The locals speak a weird blend of English and Japanese, a hint to its past under the boot of the Darwin Republic. Here, in 2135, the infamous Wilistown Riots started, culminating in a brutal crackdown of students in 2138. Over the course of the last 3 months of protests, 2.7k civilians died. At first, things calmed down in the Gaiko Isles themselves, but bolstered by the new protests in Kenyama and Mayushi, the local independence movements went back to action. What followed was guerilla warfare that only stopped in 2195 when the final round of peace talks took place. After a brief period of governmental oversight, the Gaiko commune finally gained its full independence in 2202.
Introduction
Hana Jotai is a large socialist country in the west of the moons. It contains many different people groups, due to its control over vast amounts of land. Some more unique of which are the Sunou Esperanto Chinese. Hana Jotai itself is made up of 26 local communes, all with a degree of independence.
Together with New Africa, Hana Jotai has had quite a struggle dealing with increased aggression of Aurelia. Aurelia has committed to persistent armed rocket testing over the air space of its neighbours, enraging them all. Specifically troubling Hana Jotai in this regard is the severe economic cost of its heartland halting rocket missions when Aurelia again sends its weaponized rockets over.
Introduction
Kogane Machi is a Japanese-controlled but ethnically mostly Korean city-state. Fully encircled by another Korean state, many people unknowledgeable of local history often find themselves confused about the existence of this state. Kogane Machi was part of Shin Nihhon’s strategy to take away Seogwol’s industrial base, keeping them as a puppet while giving them theoretical independence.
Introduction
Kenyama, much like its larger cousin the Mayushi Isles, is a Japanese-English island nation that split off from Darwin through protests. The original round of mass protests followed the brutal crackdown of Wilistown students protesting Darwinian control. Though these protests would prove initially unsuccessful in Kenyama, Mayushi gained what it sought in 2152, Independence. Within Kenyama, independence movements would continue for a long time, now funded by Mayushi. Only in 2175, when 28 students were killed on a single day, did tensions rise to the point Darwin allowed for a referendum to occur. Kenyama chose for immediate independence, however, Darwin would continue to hold the island till 2183. Darwin would use and abuse these 8 years in order to expand any soft power it could hold over the island, including indebting the island to Darwin before the nation would even be established as an independent entity.
Introduction
The Mayushi Isles is a hyper-densely populated island nation. Having gained a million inhabitants in just the last 25 years, it now sits at a cosy 7.2 Million. Shin Mayushi has had some struggles expanding more in recent years. While more and more refugees from Shin Nihon come to the island, it struggles to properly house them, with many being forced to the edge of uninhabitable poisonous landscapes.
Independence
The Mayushi Isles, also known as the Superior Isles, started off as a wild state back in 1987, but quickly found itself under the boot of Darwinian colonial forces. Throughout the following 200 years, Darwin enacted many assimilations policies for the islands. Though these efforts paid off for Darwin in the Gaiko Commune and in Kenyama, the people of the Mayushi Isles only felt pushed into an existential corner. Following a brutal crackdown of student protests in Wilistown on the Gaiko Islands, region wide protests broke out. The protests ultimately culminated in the full independence of the Mayushi Isles in 2152, the eventual independence of Kenyama in 2183, and then finally the independence of the Gaiko Commune in 2202. Mayushi would use the years it was independent while its brother states were still controlled by Darwin to fund independence movements.
Introduction
Shin Nippon, or New Japan is a dependency of the Japanese state. It is extraordinarily culturally conservative with many regions still speaking a version of the Japanese that is almost identical to that of 1960s Japan. Shin Nippon is an absolute monarchy which has caused some stagnation in local human development. In more recent years, Shin Nippon has started on a path of war-oriented domination. Joining the GMS and Nowa Polska, Shin Nippon has started a grand naval campaign throughout the Romance Ocean.
