The Netherlands and the Soaring Lands

Introduction

Like the other Dutch colonies, Frisland was established very early on in the Lunar colonisation process. This makes it unique in the fact that it was a very early far side base. The reason for its colonisation, while disputed, is often seen as propaganda. At the time, this base would have been on the precise opposite side of the moon. Unlike the REMK it wasn't a purely state-established colony. This meant it had a democratic system of governance from the start, rather than a governor.

Frisland is often compared to the REMK as, not only is it geographically opposite to the RMC, but socially, economically, and politically too. While the RMC is a poor dictatorship with low social mobility, Frisland, is a rich democracy, with one of the highest social mobilities and lowest Gini coefficients.

Introduction

Nieuw Gorichem was a small settlement with its own government which quickly unified with De Reikse Maan Coloniën. It was majority Dutch though like the entirety of the Reikse Maan Coloniën it had a sizable Indonesian population. Unlike the overall RMC, Nieuw Gorichem had little ethnic-based inequality. Even today in the REMK, it remains one of few cities where wealth inequality is not centred around ethnic lines.

Introduction

Nieuw Holland is a Dutch wild state that grew out of a town called Apeldam. New Holland used to be a chunk of Allings which reluctantly gave up the lands to the Dutch after a referendum. You see, the plains here always had moderate Dutch habitation, but after the double impact disaster returned the Netherlands to a back trodden power, tens of thousands of refugees fled to the moon. Apeldam and surrounding areas with their pre-existing Dutch inhabitants received large quantities of these riled up refugees.

Introduction

The New Royal Mandate is a Dutch colony set up near the end kingly functions to commemorate their weakening position. The NKM is a very small state and has a population similar to that of the Johannes Islands, despite its larger surface area. The NKM has put itself on the map by expanding its moderately sized synthetics industry. While not a powerhouse, the soft power gained from being a reliable source of energy has kept it on the map so far. This does not mean it didn't face any challenges, as on January 2nd 2296, it'd be one of the first 4 nations at war in what would become the Great Lunar War.

Introduction

The States of the Johannes Islands is an island nation within the red ocean. It is strategically located near the entry of the island rich Maanzee Sea and Mari Marat. It thus is capable of projecting quite a bit of power despite its smaller size both in land area and population then neighbouring states.

Because of its strategic location, The Johannes Islands has stationed a large peacekeeping navy for a long time, together with being a hub for the signing of treaties.

Introduction

The Reikse Expeditionaire Maan Koloniën is the largest Dutch colony on the moon. This nation has often been compared to The Democratic Republic of the Congo. The REMK is a near-absolute monarchy and is strife with nationwide injustices.

Ethnic based discrimination and social inequality is rampant.

This nation has alienated itself from most of the moon and has one of the weakest economies in the solar system. Its only real industry is agriculture which it manages to persist on by selling most of its production to neighbouring states.
