The German Miracle

The Introduction

Die Deutsche Mondgesellschaft, more commonly known as the German Moon Society (GMS) is one of, if not the, most important players on the moon. This Ethnic hotbed has long been seen as the America of the moon, with the correlation becoming more apt when seen in the light of its slightly underperforming democratic system.

The GMS much like the USA has had a history of coups, and proxy wars like the Calhan War, or the Georgian Coup in the Ruhige Bergen. Though the GMS took American exceptionalism and old-school Jim Crow laws to a brand new high. Indentured servitude continued to be practised, usually meaning near lifelong slavery for minorities. Ethnic cleansing too was practised, even in the 23rd century, the GMS would have eugenics boards, inspiring others to follow suit. Ethnonationalism, at present, showed its face in its wars with Väinolä, Pieni Suomi, Flamigiteron, New Home, New China, and many smaller wild states.

The very start

In 1920, as the third-ever Lunar colony, New Home base was established near what is now named New Berlin. It was quite large for its time, but the inhospitable surroundings caused what is commonly referred to as Pellisophobia. This sickness would cause hysteria and an extreme fear of seeing one's own skin, resulting in excruciating self-harm and eventual death. This sickness ultimately resulted in the first colony here dying out.

During the Great Lunar War

The GMS would already make its position clear in the pre-war, when it'd ship large quantities of guns to the Nowa Polskan side of the war. They also denied any application of sanctions on Nowa Polska. The president of the German Moon Society, Herman J. Gotfort, fearing the stark decline in his popular support, would continuously enact measures that seemingly were designed to heat up conflict with the Silverhill Republic. The Silverhill Republic for their part weren't tactful either, meeting insults from GMS politicians with even more insults.

The Introduction

Falchstadt is a small "independent" city-state loyal to the North Gyre Republic. It came to be so after the independence referendum that allowed the NGR to free themselves from the Gyr Republic's grip. The American State of Luna, seeing the value of the city, funded NGR militias which subsequently took the city by force. The Gyr Republic, fearful of a full-blown civil war, never used its army to take the land back, instead, they disputed it on the global level. Through this denial, the current status quo came about where the Falchstadt corridor officially still belongs to the Gyr Republic, while Falchstadt itself is an autonomous city-state. Though In practice, the NGR holds both the city and the corridor to it.

The Introduction

Grenzland is a small wildstate between the German Moon Society and New Brussels. It is quite known for its early conquests in the region. Its army was strangely organised at the time and used rover attacks to soften up targets only to then overwhelm them with infantrymen. It used its rare rovers so efficiently and effectively that it rarely lost any of them, which helped them a lot in the long run. Its most notable offensive, however, was the ambush of Wonderstadt. Mainz Staat was warned by multiple civilians and outpost of a small fleet moving toward Wonderstadt upriver. Mainz Staat military officials believed it to be the small type of early lunar navies, and thus weren't afraid of this threat. They scrambled together a ragtag team that would have been able to destroy any regular small navy. This navy however consisted of two parts, the regular armed ships, and rebuilt civilian ships, that carried rovers in them. While the defences of Wonderstadt were pointed towards the river, Rovers quickly encircled and ambushed the city. In this military action, Grenzland lost only one of their ships, while Mainz Staat lost 400~ men and was forced to surrender.

The Introduction

The Gyr Republic is the largest lunar nation in terms of land area, even larger than apollo which spans the vast Lunar Dessert. Known for its prevalent agriculture allowing the large cities in neighbouring nations to persist. It is quite poor itself and sparsely populated, but it has a few richer mining towns scattered throughout. The Gyr Republic was formed through a federation of four large conquering wildstates in the area, alongside a few local city-states.

The Gyr Republic During the Great Lunar War

During the Great Lunar war, the Gyr Republic stayed neutral, though In effect it was far more friendly with the German Moon Society and the American State of Luna. The Gyr Republic would go so far as to even send volunteer battalions to the German Moon Society, and it placed rare-earth sanctions on many members of the Silver Faction. Though it'd seem the GR is very pro-German Moon Society, its actions were less grand than they may have seemed at first. The sanctions placed on many but not all members of the Silver Faction, allowed the faction to still import many of the necessary rare-earths.

The Introduction

Herzfort is a small German port town. It gained its independence from the British in the Silverhill Republic after years of widespread civil unrest and protests throughout the area. While its establishment lessened political violence and extremism of local Germans, the Silverhill Republic still had to deal with armed insurgencies. Herzfort should have a strong economic position, allowing for relative richness for the city, however, due to the surrounding insurgencies, wars, and dictatorial extremists, Herzfort has remained quite impoverished.

The Introduction

Lossbergen was an Early German wildstate that was allowed to persist, not only because it was difficult to get to with any real army, being on an island. But it was also difficult for any other power on the island to get past the tall pointed mountains of Lossbergen. This was until Shin Zhongguo came to the island. Many small frontier wild states would establish themselves and fight Lossbergen, but Lossbergen wasn't in any real trouble until the Zhangxiang province was established. It consolidated the Chinese wild states into a more powerful singular Chinese province. The xenophobic GMS reacted by sending dozens of rovers for practically free to Lossbergen. While many claim the GMS’s military support is the reason for Lossbergen’s continued existence, many experts doubt if the state was ever in any real danger.

The Introduction

Mainz Staat was a small insular monarchist state neighbouring Grenzland and New Brussels. In 2164, it was occupied by Grenzland which subsequently annexed all of its territories. Its capital was Wonderstadt and was situated inland on the east side of its island. Mainz Staat as a political entity remained small for its entire existence. It saw little need in expanding off its island and it had a healthy agricultural economy.

The Introduction

The New German Republic (NDR) was the first major colony established by Germany on the far side of the moon. It was part of a larger German attempt at controlling the southern hemisphere, making up the German tripartite with the Luno-German Antarctic Territories, and the German Moon Society. Alongside its close ally of Austria-Bohemia, Germany managed to stretch their reach over the region.

While the NDR started off as a loyal German puppet state, it outgrew its former master to become a powerhouse in its local area. Conquering nations left and right to be engulfed in the red wave of its new socialist Lunarist doctrines.

The Great Patriotic Conquest

Every one of the NDR's rovers waves their flag, alongside a pennant with the motto "Arbeiter des Mondes Vereinigt Euch!". The NDR would accomplish its motto, "Labourers of the Moon Unite!", through vast territorial expansion on the far side of the moon.

The Luno-German Arctic Territories (1995-2197)

The Luno-German Arctic Territories or LGAT was the precursor to Vokelt, Tiwazland, and the Southern parts of the modern-day Gyr Republic. It made up an important part of Germany's initial colonial strategy. Similarly to France, Germany believed that controlling the arctic or antarctic meant controlling its respective hemisphere. Funding at first was massive. The LGAT was able to start a vast mineral extraction industry in the Antarctic regions which initially brought thousands of workers (and slaves) to this area. It, however, soon became clear no other major party was going to or was even able to, compete with Germany in the Antarctic. The lack of competing power and interest in the Lunar Antarctic soon made it clear to the Germans that the vast sums of money spent here were no longer worth it. Following the decision to defund the LGAT, it became clearer and clearer that the entire state structure was rotten. Mass state corruption alongside gang capitalism destroyed the local economy. Following a faulty election, and large-scale protests, the LGAT would collapse in 4.

The Introduction

Neuhamburg is a state mired in corruption. Its large weapons industry is the last vestige of a greater past. New Hamburg's leadership has attempted to diversify its economy, specifically by producing better consumer electronics. However, the government's insistence on large projects needing to be easily integrated with military objectives has left it in a difficult spot. Thus, oligarchs and the political class have left the nation in an unenviable downhill spiral, a spiral which they blame everybody else for.

Introduction

A small German state in the Red Fields that managed to remain independent despite the NDR attempting to annex it on multiple occasions. It leveraged the stronger position of New Britain in order to become a well developed and politically independent state.

Introduction

Rochland is a moderately sized German-American nation. It was a combined venture of the German and American states. It's one of the more prosperous states on the far side, which comes from its bilingual nature and funding from two major colonisers.

Rochland was one of the main instigators of the Great Lunar War. It opened the second front Allings was dreading. Allings was already losing swathes of land in the far east, and its western garrisons were heavily weakened. Rochland exploited this by invading Allings south of Brevin. Though Rochland’s attacks cut deep into Allings’ territories, the initial push was less effective than originally hoped. Rochland’s high command reasoned its minimal gains were caused by the high morale of Allings' troops under the command of General Mathison Gandyn who was famed for his successes in the face of greater foes.

Rochland reluctantly made a deal with Grannos to share the eastern territories of Allings in a bid to overwhelm Allings. Sadly for Rochland, Grannos’ leadership was too excited to jump into a war. Their military leadership was inexperienced, while their troops used poorly kept old equipment. In the end, while the extra manpower did reinvigorate Rochland’s troops, the morale of Allings’ forces stayed high as they were able to form large encirclements of Grannos’ troops.

Rochland felt forced to fix the military situation and committed a coup within Grannos, effectively turning it into a puppet state for the remainder of the war.

The Introduction

Ruhige Berge is a land cursed by all of reality. Ethnic clashes are so prevalent, the lack of them on a given day is newsworthy. Its countryside is empty and sparse, only having 4 rare but fruitful pockets of large year-round vegetation. The ground it covers lacks much in terms of fossil fuel fields. And so many more obstacles are in this German nation's path. As briefly touched upon prior, ethnic clashes are widespread. These ethnic clashes usually are acted out by forces of warlord-esque regional heads. The central government's army has little power outside of the capital's borders, and thus it can't properly stop the regional governors from continuing these acts that in any other circumstances would spark an open war.

The Introduction

Tiwazland is an official German colony in the southeast on the far side of the moon. Tiwazland is notable for its highly derived and adapted Lunar life forms. This is most likely due to the sparse human habitation in the area allowing Lunar life forms to survive and even thrive here. Sparse human habitation here comes in part from the lack of funding it received during its days as part of the Luno-German Arctic Territories. This lack of funding and population has continued to plague it and forced it into inaction. Fearful of any state swooping in and stealing large regions if Tiwazland were to take a side.

The Introduction

Vokelt is a large antarctic nation on the Moon. It, alongside Tiwazland, made up the majority of the LGAT's land area. It has a less than stellar mining industry and, outside of niche military fields, is experiencing severe brain drain due to its inhospitable position.

Die Westlige Wüste is a barely functional desert state. Most of its periphery is anarchic nomad land, where many bandits prey on the richer oasis elites. The grip of the Westlige Wüste over its territories comes from the oases dotting the land, around which large population centres allow themselves to be governed by a decentralised net of governors.

The Introduction

Wolfgart is yet another example of an isolated Port town on the edge of a hard to get to peninsula. This isolation, alongside the unique way Germany colonised the moon allowed the city-state to stay independent. Many large companies establish their HQs in Wolfgart as workers' rights are nearly non-existent in the city-state. Simultaneously, the local government has adopted more and more policies, turning it into a barely regulated tax haven.
