Introduction
Another small, initially run-off, state. This state, however, came about through an Austrian prince procuring a small force of trained men through bribes. Following his appointment as governor of a far-flung outpost near what is now Donstorf, he started consolidating power regionally. By abusing and over-exaggerating the presence of wild state raiders, he was able to procure advanced rovers from the Head Governor of the Austrian Moon Society. When he believed his forces were strong enough, he attacked another local governor, declaring independence in the process. However, he underestimated the response of the central government and was forced to flee further southward where his new kingdom continued to be a thorn in the side of the AMS.
In the modern era, this state is consumed by a massive amount of corruption. Furthermore, only those that have served in its military are allowed to vote in its parliament making it have some of the worst rights for female citizens on the moon. Not that voting helps here as it's corrupt parliament and monarchy do whatever they want.
Introduction
The AMS is quite a large state for lunar standards. At a whopping 720 thousand square kilometres, it is comparable with Chili and Turkey on earth. It has a diverse cast of ethnicities stemming from Austria’s colonial past. Here large amounts of Hungarians can even be found hinting at colonisation starting before the fall of Austria-Hungary, something that seems like ancient history in 2309. Though this shared work didn’t last long as in the 21st century, Austria-Bohemia became the sole owner of the Austria-Hungarian Space Agency’s rocket arsenal, practically forcing Hungary out of Lunar colonisation. The AMS is relatively densely populated for the moon.
Introduction
Blackrock is a small country surrounding the Kepler sea that often goes overlooked. It has a small population and therefore small impact on regional conflicts due to vast amounts of persistent native ecosystems dotting the countryside and in some cases consuming it whole. Because of this, much of Blackrock is unsuitable for human habitation and agriculture, further limiting its economic capabilities.
Introduction
Ferdinandland was established by a non-crown Prince descendent of Charles the first of Austria. Ferdinand Used a large loan from the main AMS and his elite connections to establish this far-flung colony, the first Austrian colony on the western continent. It is relatively rich as Ferdinand was, to the dismay of the grander AMS strategists, less interested in massively growing the colony and more interested in increasing the local wealth of his new populace. Ferdinandland would come to be used as a training ground of highly educated environmental and other scientists, giving it a huge influx of skilled labour.
Introduction
Gaylland is a small run-off state which gained its independence quite easily in the early lawless days of the moon. While most other wild states either got competed out of existence or confederated, Gaylland managed to persist through the aid of the Austrian Kingdom which believed Gaylland to be a necessary buffer state to halt further AMS encroachment on their newly acquired lands.
While often called a dictatorship due to its false election, Gaylland can better be referred to as a dynastic monarchy. Here, the same family has ruled for 8 generations.
Introduction
Krakland is a relatively poor state. Following a famine in 2189, much of its educated class left for greener pastures leaving Krakland with few value-adding industries. Instead, Krakland would come to serve Ferdinand with cheap labour. Producing cheap civilian goods by the dozen while heavily polluting its own waterways.
Introduction
Named for a small area in Austria-Bohemia, it is a quite expansive state. It is divided Into fertile plains in the north and cold antarctic mountains in the south. Its industrial base is centred around the large crater lake that initially allowed adventurers to set up shop inland.
Hartenstein has had some historic conflicts with surrounding states, with only one massive land dispute continuing on into the modern era. Namely the dispute over the lands surrounding Avonnitch city. The people here are majoritively Austrian, though the urban population of the area is mainly American.
Introduction
Ottoland is a large conglomeration of Austrian wildstates whose industry, much like the Gyr Republic, is centred around mining activities. It has massive nickel deposits which are vital for the armoured plating of many Rovers. For this reason, Ottoland was looked down upon by many, as a human right abusing war profiteering state.
Introduction
The RDS is named after a river that flows through the country. The river is often called the blood of the nation as it has allowed the RDS to be one of if not the most densely populated non-micronation on the Moon. It comes as no surprise that such a vital nation-building river got named after the Danube which used to be the nation-building river for Austria-Hungary. Though it is called the "blood of the nation", this is not why it's referred to as the Red Danube. Rather, it's called the Red Danube due to its clear waters perfectly reflecting the bright red native plants that used to inhabit the region. Sadly, due to severe ecological mismanagement and a hatred of early settlers for all native life, only sparse pockets of Lunar lifeforms persist.
Introduction
Unterland, much like Ferdinandland, was established by an adventurous nobleman. Though this nobleman attempted his conquest of the moon single-handedly, forgoing official channels of funding and equipment sourcing, and favouring buying out settlers to come with him across the sea. As you can imagine, this severely hurt Unterland's ability to expand, chaining it to a small coastal territory while states around it kept growing and growing.
