Introduction

This nation is one of many nations on the moon. It was established following the great refugee crisis in Europe. While the initial poisoning and deaths were grave, the destruction of many European economies caused mass migration and food shortages around the earth. Many fled for other states and many more fled to the moon, often grasping at whatever bit of land they could. A lot of early fighting for land with Catalonians occurred with the already established Portuguese people in the Greater Victorian Island Chain. After a 22 year period filled with war and guerilla fighting between Nova Coimbra and Aureòlia, a peace treaty was signed and a new border was established. This border would end up being anything but peaceful, with land disputes continuing on till this day. These disputes got worse when a large oil bubble was found beneath the sea in a border area containing many Catalonian speakers, Aureòlia disputed the border's extent, while Nova Coimbra believed no new changes in formal land control should occur, even if more accurate to the original treaties. Today border clashes are frequent though due to the economic might of the Silverhill Republic backing up Aureòlia, Nova Coimbra has not started an active conflict.
