The Religious Extremism of the Majani

Introduction

The New Majani Republic started as a small wildstate called Wabraja (Land of the White Mountain) on the coast of the white sea. The State was the size of Luxembourg, and its largest settlement barely hit 27.000 thousand inhabitants. This made it an altogether minor player in the region. This began to change after the civil war in the American Mandate of the Moon.

During the Second or Lunar American Civil War, Majani peoples rose up all over the mandate. The Majani forces were concentrated in four regions.

The first region was on the Island that today is split between the Falkings Republic and the Majani Theocracy. The second was the largest and spread across the New Olympia Peninsula. The third was at the end of the war, to the south of Leith. The fourth and final was in the Kujawa province of the Saunders Farhold and was perhaps the most promising, even holding elections for the position of matriarch of the Majani Republic.

When these pockets fell, those who sided with the Majani faith fighters were sent to concentration camps or massacred. Many fled to the far side of the moon, explaining the large presence of Majani and other new-age languages there. This massive influx of people loyal to no state but that which represented their faith, allowed the Wabraja to expand massively. 15 years after the Second American Civil War ended, they renamed themselves to the New Majani Republic to honour their fallen brethren of the Majani Republic.

Introduction

Colimonibrataja means "forested mountain peaks" in Majani and perfectly describes the island of Maracni which makes up 85% of the nation's land area.

Maracni was at the time of discovery, and still now, covered in a mix of native and earthly flora, creating a uniquely colourful and forest-like biome.

The nation itself had a pretty easy beginning. It's a consolidation of many smaller wildstates. The only two trouble periods were the Bulgarian flight, when large amounts of Bulgarians fled lynchings in Roosevelt (and the NDR), and a brief war with Frisland over their island territory, which ultimately ended in a stalemate.

Introduction

A minuscule religious runoff state, the Majani Theocracy had brief periods of independence prior to gaining full independence on February 20th, 2172, marking the beginning of the Second American Civil War.

The Majani people are a highly distinct group of settlers, having both their own language and religion, following a novel and "strange" form of Christianity, considered by most to be a new religion rather than a sect of a current one. They follow a matriarch whose role is analogous to the Catholic Pope. The matriarch is a descendant of Jane Rivera who claims to be the new embodiment of Mary Magdalene.

Despite, the SACW being long over, fighting continues on this island, the theocratic government has tried to gain independence at extreme costs, while the Falkings Republic refuses to relent due to the area being both a strategic position (allowing the state to claim a great number of territorial waters) and containing vast natural resources.

Introduction

Purpurio, officially La Purpuraj Statoj, is a country in the Great Lunar Desert on the far side of the moon. Some pockets of territory stretch beyond the desert and into a great plains region. It has prominent land borders with the NDR to its south, and Yoralia to its north. Besides this, it shares borders with the Westliche Wüste to the east and disputed borders with Nowe Opole to the west.

The first settlers arrived here ~1970, pre-Esperantofication, a large chaotic and complex Web of local lingua franca dotted the region. People from Europe, the Chinas, Africa and the Indian subcontinent all met and lived together in this area. Later, in around 2013, Esperanto was introduced here as a proper method of communication. Unlike in Zema, here Esperanto did not come from a lack of linguistic competition, but the burden on life and trade the vast amount of languages were.

The large cobweb of local languages would continue to exist for the next two centuries, but it slowly faded away. Coup after coup, government after government, they all kept Esperanto in place as the main national language and the language of both the government and schools. Though in 2267 their specific variant of Esperanto was reclassified as being a Moon Speak variant.
