September 2022

A Note from Ms. Palmer, KJHS Principal

Dear Kingsley families,

While these first few weeks have not been without their challenges, we are so glad to have our Kingsley students back in the building. We appreciate your continued support as we help students adjust to being back in school. We continue to emphasize our Kingsley values of growth, community, and innovation as we navigate the school year and you can be assured that every KJHS staff member is committed to your student's growth and learning. As challenges arise this school year, which they always do, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I have enjoyed the many conversations I have already had with KJHS families and look forward to meeting more of you as the school year progresses. In the meantime, thank you for all you have done to help us have a great start to the school year. We couldn't do it without you!

Ms. Palmer

KJHS Updates

Early Release - September 13th

Unit 5 has an early release on Tuesday, September 13th. KJHS students will be released from school at 11:45 am. Sack lunches will be provided free of charge for those students wanting one. We will take orders for those at school on Wednesday, September 8.

Cougar P.R.I.D.E.

Our PBIS theme for this year is PRIDE. Each letter stands for a characteristic or action we believe every Cougar should exhibit and we will be emphasizing one characteristic each month.

P: Participate

R: Respect

I: Integrity

D: Determination

E: Excellence

K Cash

Student can earn K Cash by exhibiting proper behaviors at KJHS. This K Cash can be used to get into school events, enter school drawings, purchase items from the school K Cart and much more! Want to know some of the behaviors we expect of our Cougars? Check our the Classroom Expectations poster, which is posted in every one of our classrooms.

Infraction Tracker

As teachers notice unwanted student behavior here at school, they will begin to note them on what we call our "Infraction Tracker". This helps us monitor student behavior and identify students who need more support in making good choices. After 3 infractions, a family will be notified of the issues that staff is witnessing. These infractions also determine whether or not students qualify for team and school-wide rewards. Students are being introduced to the Infraction Tracker in late August/early September so they are clear on what the expectations for behavior and reward are here at KJHS.

PBIS Reward Sign Up Genius

Looking to make donation that will positively impact students? Our PBIS Team is asking for donations to reward students for positive behaviors exhibited here at school. Interested? Check out the PBIS Incentive and Reward Donations sign up.

R is for Respect

September is Respect month! We are focusing on we Cougars can show respect for ourselves, others, and our building.

KJHS News

The KJHS News Team debuts a new, all student-produced news show every Monday. Check out the first Kingsley News of 2022!

KJHS Visitor Policy

We want Kingsley to be a welcoming place for all but we must also keep safety in mind. Visitors to our building should enter and exit through the main entrance (Door A, east side of the building off of Kingsley Street). While we understand this is inconvenient for parking, it is paramount to safety. When you visit our building, please remember to sign in and out in the main office when you leave. Please do not ask a student or staff member to let you in any door other than Door A.

Z Passes

Students riding a school bus for any reason (transport to and from school, sports, field trips, etc.) must swipe their school ID to get on and off the bus. This enables us to know which students are on which bus. Please remind your child that they must have their ID with them when using Unit 5 buses.

ISU Tutoring Services

ISU is offering free tutoring services in reading and math for students. Please see the information below if you are interested in tutoring services for your child.

We will then reverse the process and bus students back to the KJHS building.

High School Football Games

From the NCHS & NCWHS Principals:

High school football games are great events for junior high and elementary students to attend to start seeing what high school life is like. Junior high and elementary students coming to a football game at either NCHS or West must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older). Junior high or elementary students without an adult will not be allowed to enter the stadium. We also ask that students not bring bags, footballs, or toys to the game.
