Students As Leaders

_____

Our School Values In Action

At Kingsley, the staff is constantly asking ourselves "how we can make our school values come alive?" Our school values are:

  • Community, it's who we are,

  • Growth, it's what we promise, &

  • Innovation, it's how we serve.

Our values push us to find opportunities for students to build community & grow their leadership skills in innovative ways. Hmmmmmm.....so how does that look at Kingsley? I hoped you would ask! There is nothing I love more than to brag on our AMAZING STUDENTS! Below are a few recent examples of our OUTSTANDING STUDENTS leading. #CavPride

  • Students in the Black Student Union created student announcements that celebrate significant contributions of Black Americans.

  • Students in Not In Our School developed bulletin boards to honor Black Americans & will lead Kindness Week. Kindness Week is the last full week of February.

  • Students in the KJ Cover rebranded the Kingsley student newspaper & launched it using an updated format. Read the latest edition of the KJ Cover here!

  • 8th graders will host a Career Fair later this month for 6th & 7th graders. This is a Kingsley tradition that we are reinventing due to the multiple safety measure we carefully adhere to daily with in-person children.

  • 8th grade BELT students have reimagined the Cav Cash Store in a safe format. The presented their idea to the KJHS PTO & at a faculty meeting. 8th graders anticipate launching it later this semester.

  • Students may join the newly formed, Mural Club, to create an image with local artist, Vince Bobrosky. The mural will embody images to embrace equity along with our school values.

The staff play "behind the scenes" roles in all of these opportunities coming to life. Our hope is that we create a space & provide support so students take center stage, growing in knowledge, skills and confidence as they do so.

Share your thoughts & help us grow by completing this survey by February 26. Family reflections will guide action items & priorities within Kingsley.

Athletic News!

It has been a fast paced couple of weeks. Volleyball and Boys Basketball were permitted to return to the hardwood. Dance and Cheer have also restarted! We have enacted a couple of policies to help continue our commitment to participant safety that we would like to share.

The first is the Student Athlete COVID Testing Policy. Athletes will be required to have a Covid Test completed as part of their participation in an athletic season. Additionally, spectators, on a limited basis, will be allowed to attend home events. Our Spectator Policy is explained in this video.

We look forward to having Girls Basketball beginning in mid-March. Wrestling and Track will begin in early April. Please visit our Athletics Website for registration and tryout information posted soon. Students interested in participating in tryouts and other athletics must completed and submit all required documents, including sports physicals ahead of time.

What guides our policy? Illinois Covid Region 2 movement to Tier 1, has created the opportunity to re-engage activities under the IDPH Sports Safety Guidance.

Live Streaming! All Kingsley home games for Volleyball, Girls Basketball, and Boys Basketball will be streamed on the Kingsley Youtube Channel

What happens if we have a snow day?

Beginning this year, the district has transitioned to remote snow days.

Rather than cancelling school, all students will join live/synchronous classes from home using the the Wednesday remote schedule.

Good news! Students sign off live/synchronous classes at 1:35pm so there will still be time to build a snowman, make some hot chocolate & enjoy the snow day!

Kingsley Updates

Many people have spruced up their homes these past 12 months & at Kingsley, we have done some of the same!

When the building was emptier than any of us would have liked, we decided "when our students return, Kingsley will be better than ever!" We were resourceful, finding grant funding where possible, to make improvements.

Students have noticed! A 6th grade "KJ Cover" writer asked about all the improvements & wrote this article. #StudentsFirst
