Remember reading to your child(ren) when they were younger? Does that stir sweet memories from their childhood? Middle schoolers enjoy connecting through reading a book aloud together too!
During September & October, Literature & Composition teachers have been reading aloud a novel, carefully chosen for their grade-level. The text is helping teachers lay a strong foundation for Readers Workshop while incorporating conversations about our school value of community.
In a community, we may not know everyone equally well. Regardless, we can be kind and appreciate community contributions from all. Strong communities have strong communication. We learn about one another by listening, reaching out to people we don't know as well, and spending purposeful time with one another.
On November 8, author Jordon Sonneblick will be visiting Kingsley. Team teachers will begin reading a grade-level specific novel by Mr. Sonneblick soon.
The KJHS 2020-2021 Yearbook will be delivered to students the week of October 11.
2021-2022 Yearbooks can be ordered here. Yearbooks cost $30.
If you ordered PTO spirit wear, it has arrived! We only have a few students who have not picked theirs up in the main office yet.
We anticipate hosting another spirit wear order so that items arrive before Winter Break.
For students who did not get their photo taken, or want to return their picture package for a new photo, picture retakes will occur on November 5.
First come first serve to purchase a past basketball jersey or apparel. Check out the deals here. All proceeds go to support our basketball teams.
Thinking ahead & instilling appreciation for Veterans
During the week of Veterans Day, we would like to celebrate Veterans in the Kingsley community. Students will feel pride when we feature U.S. Veterans in their family by displaying our thanks, basic service information & photos during student lunches.
Can we feature a Veteran in your family? If so, please email Ms. France (francesm@unit5.org) their name, branch, service years &/or rank & a photo.
A big thank you from the staff and I for talking with your children about the TikTok Challenges & making good choices. We have noticed a positive change since our request for your help. It does take a village!
This week, I chose to turn off student access to Google Chat on student devices. While it was a helpful communication tool during remote instruction, it is no longer educationally necessary for students and teachers to communicate. It had become a "texting tool" or if you think old school, Google Chat was a means to "pass notes" during class.
Since turning off Google Chat, I have noticed students creatively socializing using electronic methods during class. Some things I've noticed is an increased use of Gmail to chat, students using a shared Google docs to electronically talk & creating Padlets to chat during class. We are addressing this with students as it occurs.

How Can We Get Make-up Work during an Absence?
Google Classroom: For lesson materials & individual assignments, visit each teacher’s Google Classroom.
Assignment Portal: For an overview of classwork & assignments, visit the "Assignment Portal" for your child's team & teachers.
After visiting Google Classrooms and the "Assignment Portal,” email the teacher if there are questions about specific assignments.
In rare cases, to participate in learning, students need physical materials, such as watercolors for art, a new book for Literature & Composition, needle and thread for Family & Consumer Science, etc. In those rare cases, teachers will email families regarding materials pick up.
When is make-up work due after an absence?
In general, students are allowed the number of days of their absence, not to exceed 5 school days.
If students are feeling up to it, they need to work on assignments during their absence.
Leaves have yet to change color this autumn & we're already talking about snow or ice?! To help families be prepared in the event of inclement winter weather, we wanted to share the 21-22 plans for e-Learning Days at the middle school.
Our E-learning schedule will allow students to learn in the morning while staying warm & safe at home, enjoy lunch, then if weather allows, get out there and play in the snow!
Teachers will provide synchronous & asynchronous learning opportunities through Google Classroom then host office hours for students who need extra help at the conclusion of the E-learning day.
Thank you for helping your child wear their mask by:
packing an extra mask in their backpack daily &
laundering masks regularly.
We have some students arriving without masks, which requires us to supply masks or inconvenience parents with a phone call to bring a mask.
If you previously signed your child up to participate in voluntary COVID testing, please remind your child of their testing time.
Tuesdays from 11:15-12:45
6th & 8th graders will test before eating their lunch.
7th graders will leave class at 11:45 a.m. for a few minutes to participate.
