On Thursday, 8.5.21 at 5p.m., student schedules, lockers, & teams will be viewable to families & students in Infinite Campus.
Once you know your team, exploratory, & P.E., click here to learn more about your teachers & access supply lists.
Benefit the KJHS PTO & get some of the very first Kingsley Cougar spirit wear. The online store is open through August 25.
Spirit wear will be delivered to students during the school day the week of September 20.
#KingsleyCARES
The P.E. uniform is a gray t-shirt with last name printed across the shoulders & black shorts. The first day students will need P.E. clothes or a t-shirt & shorts for P.E. is Friday, August 20.
Want to order P.E. clothes from us? Click here.
Students will need a lock for their P.E. locker. If you purchase the hall & P.E. lock from us, both locks will have the same combination & are guaranteed through senior year of high school by any Unit 5 secondary school. If a lock breaks, we replace it the same day. A pair of locks is $12 in cash or check payable to Kingsley JHS.
Drop off:
Students may be dropped off at the north parking lot which is at the corner of College & Kingsley, or at the main entrance.
We welcome students by opening our doors at 8:20 a.m. because staff begins work hours at 8:20 a.m.
Classes: 8:45 a.m. -3:45 p.m.
Pick Up:
To avoid hallway crowding, 6th graders are dismissed at 3:40 with 7th graders at 3:42 & 8th graders at 3:45.
Students must be picked up by 3:55 p.m. because staff ends their work day at that time. We do not have supervision for students after 3:55 p.m. unless they are participating in a club, athletics, or a special event.
Kingsley needs you :-)
On Monday, August 30th at 6:30, we will have the 21-22 formative, KJHS PTO meeting in the KJHS IMC. Come on in the main entrance! We would love to have voices from all our families join PTO!
If elementary PTO has tired you out, please, please know that middle school PTO is not as time consuming. Kingsley needs all of our families!
On Thursdays, students will begin their school day with an Advisory period. Like teaming, Advisory is a core practice of middle schools.
The premise of Advisory is that students are more likely to succeed when they have a strong network of peer & adult support. The Social & Emotional Learning Standards (SEL) guide advisory lessons & support the development of strong relationships. Advisory is led by a Kingsley teacher & is organized by grade-level teams.
To help students focus on face-to-face connections & academics, students will hear staff say that cell phones are to be "silent and away during the day." We ask students to use their phones before 8:45 a.m. & after 3:45 p.m.
How can families partner with us?
Instead of sending your child a text during the school day, let us deliver to them for you. Phone us at 309.557.4407.
If your child texts you during the day, please encourage them to ask a caring adult at Kingsley to help them.
Due to hybrid, there were around 320 students in the building daily. With so few students, we were able to safely allow students to carry backpacks, cinch sacks & other large bags.
This year, we will have near 800 students. As a result, we are not able to allow students to carry backpacks, cinch sacks & the like during the school day. Classroom aisles & the hallways are not large enough for students to safely carry bags during the day.
The KJHS 2020-2021 Yearbook Staff did a fabulous job covering the final edition of "The Cavalier." Want a 20-21 Yearbook? After they arrive, you may purchase a 20-21 Yearbook at KJHS for $30 cash of check, payable to KJHS. If you already ordered one, they will be delivered by 9.1.21.
Ordering details for the 2021-2022 Yearbook will be forthcoming!
Unit 5 is requesting, not requiring, that families with children who are 12 or over provide a copy of your child's vaccination card. The purpose is to help with quarantine decisions.
If willing, please email an image of the card to the Kingsley school nurse, Jennifer O'Brien, at obrienja@unit5.org or drop a copy off in our 24/7 secure drop box located near the Kingsley main entrance. Thank you!
Students are welcome to carry plain water in a clear, plastic bottle with a lid. Water bottle filling stations have been installed throughout the building to help student stay hydrated.
Why clear bottles? To ensure students are drinking water instead of Gatorade, soda, coffee, etc. When students spill water (which happens sometimes with 800 students), clean up is easy. With water, there is no sticky mess left behind which would attract bugs quickly....and no one wants sticky messes & bugs!
On the first day of school, student IDs will be provided which are used daily at lunch & to get on & off buses.
Lost or forgotten IDs? It happens & is okay! Everyone gets lunch! Without an ID, the cafeteria staff must manually look up a student; this takes more time. Therefore, students who do not have an ID will get in line last.
After student pictures, we will give all students a 2nd ID. If students lose both the IDs, we will give them a 3rd for free. After that, IDs cost $3 to replace.
If you would like to decorate the inside of your locker, you are welcome to do so. Please help us take care of the lockers by avoiding the use of duct tape, packing tape, hot glue, contact paper, or any other strong adhesive. These items pull the paint off the locker & leave it in poor condition for the next child.
Families have discovered that lining the locker with lightweight wrapping paper works well. For the wrapping paper to adhere to the locker interior, families share that magnets or basic Scotch tape are ideal.
All are welcome & embraced by the Kingsley community. Our doors are wide open at the above dates & times for students & families to enjoy:
a self-guided tour,
practice walking schedules,
setting up lockers,
purchasing locks
($12 for two locks with matching combinations; one lock for the hallway locker & one for the P.E. locker),
dropping off school supplies in lockers, &
dropping off physicals for 6th graders & athletes.
For families who would like an administrator-led Kingsley Welcome followed by a staff-led tour, we will host an in-person option on Monday, August 9 at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. & 1p.m.
If a virtual Kingsley welcome is better for your family, we have that too on Wednesday, August 11 at 1p.m. ~ Join the Virtual Tour via Google Meet by clicking here.
