Function within the Nurse’s legal scope of practice and in accordance with policies and procedures of employing a health care institution or practice setting.  Assume responsibility and accountability for the quality of nursing care provided to patients and families.  Participate in activities to promote development/practice of professional Nursing. Demonstrate responsibility for continued competence in nursing and develop insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning.

Apply/use clinical reasoning/ knowledge based on the nursing program of study and evidence-based practice outcomes as basis for decision making in nursing practice. Determine holistic needs of culturally, ethically and socially diverse patients/families based upon interpretation of comprehensive health assessment findings in comparison with evidence-based practice health data. Analyze assessment data to identify problems, formulate outcomes and develop care plans of patients and families using information from evidence-based practice in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health team. Demonstrate safe, compassionate, culturally competent nursing care to patients/ families. Evaluate patient outcomes/responses to therapeutic interventions and plan for follow up nursing care. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized teaching plans for patients/ families to address disease prevention, health promotion, maintenance, and restoration. Coordinate human, information and physical resources in providing care for patients/families.

Utilize Nursing Process and coordinate, and communicate timely with patients, their families and the interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate patient centered care that is safe, compassionate, comprehensive, equitable and evidence based. Function as health care advocate in monitoring and promoting quality access to health care for patients and their families. Refer patients and their families to health care services to promote continuity of care. Communicate/manage information using technology and ensure confidentiality to support decision making to improve nursing care. Assign and/or delegate and supervise nursing activities to other members of the Health Care Team to whom the nurse is responsible.
