Employee Benefits Reserve

The primary intention of this policy is to reduce the likelihood of need-based, age-based, or family-status based discrimination in hiring. Each year, we will set aside $15,000 for an "Employee Benefits Reserve." If we hire a new Core Staff member, and the Core Staff member has needs for healthcare and childcare benefits that require the Law Center to spend more than what it spends on the current average Core Staff member, then funds in the Reserve may be used to cover any portion that goes above the average per-staff expenditure during the new staff member's first 24 months of employment. Any amount exceeding $30,000 that accumulates in the Reserve and that will not be needed to cover above-average benefits for already-hired staff shall then be used to create a grants program that funds other individuals and organizations. The details of the grants program will be determined by the Incubator Circle.

It shall be an accountability of the Admin Circle in collaboration with the Financial Circle to:

  • Calculate the average per staff expenditure on health, dental, vision, and childcare benefits at the time of any new hire.
  • Keep an accounting of the Reserve and amounts spent per the policy above.
