Spell out our full name "Sustainable Economies Law Center" in the main body text of any public-facing communications rather than using the acronym “SELC”. (When using our name in a sentence, use "the" before our full name – in lowercase unless at the start of a sentence.) When shorthand is necessary, use "the Law Center". Any other generic terms like "the Center", "organization", "us", or "we" are also fine.
If you come across a public use of “SELC” (including uses you are uncertain about) please notify the Communications Circle by posting a comment on this Asana task thread: Public Use of SELC.
Additional guidelines:
The Communications Circle will make best efforts to remove most instances of the SELC acronym on any public-facing media or materials that we control. We will finish using any print materials we already have, but only print new materials without using the acronym.
Explanation: It is important for us to avoid any situation where the term “SELC” is used in a way that might be construed as a trademark use. In short, that means we should not use “SELC” as a brand for the Sustainable Economies Law Center. While we believe it would be fine to use “SELC” as an abbreviation for the sake of convenience, we will avoid doing so as a measure of goodwill to other organizations that share the abbreviation SELC. This policy only applies to public-facing communications that we control.
