- If you have a meeting or other event that you think would be a good learning opportunity for a SELC volunteer, Fellow, intern, or other person wanting to learn about our work, invite shadow@theselc.org to the Google Calendar event. If you do this, do not include confidential client information in that event name or notes. If it’s a meeting and not a public event, anyone wanting to shadow it will need to get your permission first.
- If it’s a client meeting, be sure to either 1) get the client’s permission to have someone shadow the meeting, or 2) if it’s a regular SELC volunteer/intern, give the person a clear task during the meeting (like note-taking or research), so that their presence can be seen as necessary to the meeting, so that it doesn’t destroy attorney-client privilege. In all cases, make very clear to the person shadowing that all client information must be kept confidential.
If you know of someone who could benefit from shadow opportunities, invite them to view the shadow@theselc.org calendar (or ask Janelle to add them). Instruct them to contact the person who created the event to get confirmation that they may attend and shadow. If it’s an event already open to the public, they do not need to get permission.
