Natural Persons like SELC. And because Natural Persons like SELC, some like-minded Corporate Persons like SELC, too. This policy formalizes SELC’s process for collaborating with for-profit enterprises who offer to donate a portion of sales of their products to SELC, often in exchange for promoting their products through our community and website.
Such decisions are within the general domain of the Abundance Circle. The Abundance Circle will consider promoting, either actively on social media and/or passively through our website, individual products and businesses on a case-by-case basis with the following factors in mind:
- Mission alignment between SELC and the for-profit entity (i.e. are they down with the cause?). Specific factors to be considered and balanced include, but are not limited to:
- Sustainable v. Extractive source of all materials
- Environmental impact of production process, transportation, and waste along production chain
- Are labor practices fair, just, and non-exploitative?
- Is this a product that people actually need? (If the company wants to sell SELC mousepads, we might just be contributing more unnecessary “stuff” to the world?)
- If the company was our client, would they fit into one of our Program areas?
- Revenue generation potential of promoting the specific product (i.e. how much will we actually benefit?);
- Other potential non-monetary benefits of promoting enterprise/product (i.e. would we get other cool stuff, like schwag to give away, or reach a really big audience?)
- Length of time sales would benefit SELC (i.e. is this a one-off promotion or any ongoing source of support?)
The Abundance Circle is empowered to make decisions based on the above factors, and will give all other Core Staff members sufficient opportunity to object to their decision via email.
