In furtherance of SELC’s 30 Hour Work Week Policy, and arising out of SELC’s collective inquiry process and a growing body of empirical evidence suggesting that pressure to constantly respond to emails lowers worker wellbeing and productivity: SELC has decided to voluntarily limit the use of internal emails and messages through Slack between certain hours. SELC Core Staff will not send emails or slack messages to other staff members:
Monday - Friday, 8pm - 7am
Weekends
Should an extremely time-sensitive or urgent matter arise during those times, staff are encouraged to text message or call other staff members directly. Note that this policy does not imply that staff cannot compose emails or otherwise work during those times; apps such as Boomerang allow staff to schedule emails to be sent at later times.
