Using SELC assets for personal use:
SELC believes that sharing is generally a good thing, and, given that SELC owns very few assets of value, SELC staff may use SELC equipment, books, and other assets for personal use, within the following boundaries:
- The staff member informs other staff. Until we adopt any other system, we inform others by logging equipment use in Asana, here: SELC's Electronics and other Equipment [...]. Anyone borrowing equipment must indicate that in a comment in the appropriate task. Staff should use any process created by the SELC Librarian to track borrowed books.
- TIP - If you regularly use an item, follow the task so you stay updated about when it’s in use!
- The staff member does not damage the asset or otherwise diminish SELC's use of the asset for work purposes. For example, no staff member may use the SELC camera for personal purposes if doing so would conflict with any work-related need for the camera. A staff member should send a note to any staff who routinely uses the asset for work and ask if there would be any problem with borrowing it. Staff should return all items in a timely fashion. A staff member shall pay for all repair and replacement costs if an asset is damaged or lost while the staff member is borrowing it for personal use.
- Staff should not store equipment at their homes, unless the Admin Circle agrees that it would be helpful to store the item at home to reduce clutter in the office.
Removing items from the office for work purposes:
In general, staff should make a good faith effort to make notes in Asana (SELC's Electronics and other Equipment [...]) when the staff member has the item outside of the office for work related purposes as well.
